I understand that changes to an established game are not always a good idea, and if it is done it must be done quite conservatory. The thing is a good commander should not allow one of his units to be cut off, especially if it remains cut off and out of supply.

For example, the current out of supply mechanic is : the supply dot is : Yellow -> Orange - > Red

You could add extra colors so the out of supply dots are Yellow -> Orange -> Red -> Purple -> Black.

Once the unit supply turns black, it starts to lose hitpoints. This would happen 5 rounds after it first runs out of supply, which is a very long time in this game. I am certain that this would not break the game or unbalance scenarios.

Eric2 is probably among the best guys to form an opinion, seeing he builds all these well balanced scenarios, and he seems to think it could work.

This game is still great even with the current mechanics, but sometimes small, carefully added changes are a good thing too :)

I vote for no restriction on movement (as-is) and 1-point reduction in strength per turn after 2 turns cut off, if we must do something.

But upon more reflection, I am more inclined to agree with Gabe -- leave it alone.

I know it's rather unrealistic because it's going to be hard to make such a change at this stage of the game, but once I thought it would be a smart idea to give the engineering units a little more work by having to repair damaged bridges on the main transport routes
Example:
We command an army group during the Barbarossa op, so it is necessary to keep the main road, i.e. the Brest-Minsk road, in good condition, so the most important thing is to defend and rebuild damaged bridges (railway or road).
The thing is that we would need to introduce something like the current supply of each hex with the number of SPs depending on its distance from the nearest supply depot or railroad/road
If a bridge would be destroyed on the way or on a specific supply line, the given unit feels it similar to the classic cut off by the enemy unit.
This would allow even better and more efficient use of engineers units, or even the underrated Bautruppe, which are always in reserve in my core, because I prefer to spend this 1 CPs on the purchase of transport for artillery for example
