Artillery area fire

i just noticed that artillery may target seaborne units and fire at them. Is this wad?
I don't mind, as along as the effect is smaller than land-based area fire.

Hehe, interesting :). Question is, is there even *any* effect - I seem to remember arty does not have naval att?

May test it later, but my first guess would be the bombard function simply does not check for land/sea.

I saw no strength points deducted.
Historically there werew a few incidents where land-based infantry shelled naval vessels.
Also, the Japanese used various AT/AA-weapons to shell invading US Marines in Higgin boats, ie at Betio.
Currently we only have the coastal gun and fortress units available. Their ranges are far too generous to substitute for 1-2 range weapons.

In Narvik 1940, German gebirgsjagers fired the Allied destroyers in the fjord from the mainland eg. :wink:

In Gabe's Mod, arty does have this ability, even in normal fire option, and does some effect indeed. I find it adds flavor to the game.

In the past versions of the game it was indeed possible to damage ships with the "bombard" ability.

But to my knowledge that was changed and now it does nothing to naval vessels in the vanilla version of the game.

I think area fire against naval vessels should not be an option, but direct fire should have some effect.
