Rising Sun Midway Campaign Issue (Check Turn = +1 of Turn Limit)

Post by slugnutty »

Hi,

I am posting this here since Slitherine Tech Support says they do not handle support for issues with playing their games (apparently, they only handle installing them).

I was playing Order of Battle World War II, the Rising Sun campaign. I was playing the Midway scenario, and I captured Midway and sank every military ship I could find: 3 carriers, all cruisers, all destroyers, and 3 submarines (which there may have been more submarines since they are under water). It was in excess of 25 ships. I believe a supply ship may have got away. It seems like I achieved the victory conditions.

Anyhow, I had completed this destruction before turn 20 out of 30. The rout or destroy enemy fleet objective was not set though. Thus, there was nothing left for me to do but cruise around looking for anything I had missed. After going through to the end of the 30th turn, it said it was a defeat and ended my campaign. That cannot possibly be correct.

So, what is the deal with this campaign? I assume others are able to beat it and move on to other scenarios in the Rising Sun campaign. It is not like this is a new release, as it is 4.5 years old.

Is there anything that I can do, or should I just assume that I wasted money on the Rising Sun campaign, since I cannot destroy what is not there, and move on to something else?

Thanks,

Rich

Welcome, Rich. The following may be TMI, but I provide it anyway. Skip to the end if you get glassy-eyed.

The first primary mission is "Capture Midway island" and that is governed by this trigger; when you take the island hex, it awards the objective . . .

. . . and it turns on this trigger which I believe is a timing mechanism that allows the player to accomplish as many of the secondary objectives as possible before the end of the scenario (30 turns), at which time it awards the second primary objective:

Note this trigger is looking for "Turn = 31" although the scenario contains only 30 turns. This mechanism used to work until the latest patch (version 8.5.4). The developers did away with this capability because, AFAIK, it was incompatible with their new tournament mode. Now, in 8.5.4, the game never gets up to +1 turn past the limit; hence this trigger never fires. This is probably why you did not get your victory as expected.

The developers are aware of this; see this post and the response from the developer immediately following. I read someplace that it's only occurring in the two oldest DLC campaigns, U.S. Pacific and Rising Sun. It is anticipated that the issue will be corrected in a future patch. That will not help you with your saved game, however. Restart the scenario and use a cheat code (Shift + C, then type #igotnukes) for an instant victory.

I edited your thread title to highlight the issue.

The latest update to v8.5.6 fixed this problem, which is fantastic. My hope is that this fills a hole that was in previous regression testing for future updates.

Thanks for the fix though.
