Difficulty level in Epic Battles?

Post by kronenblatt »

How does the difficulty setting work in the different Epic Battles? I mean, there are no FP to adjust, right?

Maybe/probably someone else has already asked this before or the information can be found elsewhere, but if so, where can I find it? Thanks!

There are FP in most of them, and you get less FP on higher difficulty levels. At very low difficulty levels you may not notice this because you have enough FP to purchase all of the unfixed units, so the force selection stage is skipped.

In others some of the enemy units are removed at easier difficulty levels.

By FP you mean Force Points?

They can be adjusted, the strength of armies in ancient and medieval battles is highly speculative, even for those that we know a lot about. So there is usually plenty of scope to change the size of armies at different difficulty settings.

Normally Epic battles are adjusted for difficulty by varying the points available for the player's army. I adjust the scenario through play testing so that it is hard, but not impossible for me to win. I set that as the Emperor level, and then work out the extra points available at the lower settings.

Depending on the scenario that sometimes is not the best way to do it, so sometimes I adjust the size of the AI army instead. In rare cases the difficulty levels can be achieved by other means, for instance in the Carthaginian player Cannae scenario the quality of the Roman legions varies with the difficulty level.

I don't do very low or easier difficulty levels, Richard... ;)

(Yes, FP = Force Points.) It was interesting to read that in e.g. the Carthaginian player Cannae Epic Battle, the quality of the Roman legions varies with the difficulty level. Is that the case for many other Epic Battles?

I think that is the only one.
