Three small queries Bolstering, Supporting LF and Undrilled

Post by Petronius »

I anticipation of a battle I will be having tomorrow I have three small rather diverse queries.

1. A TC is fighting in the front of a BG that becomes disrupted and this remains unchanged during the following round. My question is during the next JAP, can that TC attempt to bolster or is that privilege reserved for generals enjoying the ‘with’ status?

2. I have a BG of Danish Freemen in the formation 3 X 2 HF Off Spear with a third rank of LI Bow. In the Impact a base is lost and effectively removed from the second spear rank with a base of LI stepping forward to replace it. I presume that for the melee that file will now lose the Spear POA but am unsure if the LI fights with a full die?

3. I have a BG of HF and alongside a BG of MF Undrilled and without the benefit of a general. In the Impact phase my HF charge and engage base for base with an enemy BG just 2MF to their front, anticipating that during the manoeuvre phase the MF will be able to help out with overlap support. The question is whether the MF will be able to automatically move forward the 2 MF to provide that overlap or must they take a CMT (with failure meaning that they either have to stand still or overshoot.)?

1. the TC fighting is with the BG so can bolster them

2. LF lose 1 dice per 2, so whilst there is only one, getting one dice none are lost

3. You can shift upto half a base and move short to get into overlap without CMT IIRC. If I'm wrong, IIRiC, charge the MF in as well, you can still fight with the HF only at impact as you have more bases in contact so choose.

But they cant wheel can they? IE if you dont have your front edge parallel to your fighting friends you have to CMT to get there (being a difficult advance if undrilled heavy foot.

Why not charge with the MF too? As long as total bases match on either side for impact you can still send in a second battle group and chose which bases fight. Since the HF are impacting base for base chose them and the MF just hurl abuse. Come manouevre phase the MF align into overlap. Solves worrying about it.

IIRC you don't need a CMT to wheel if moving into an overlap position.

From P75

"Such a move can include a sideways shift of up to half a base width. It is exempt from any requirement to pass a CMT to wheel or move less than full distance"

Interestingly this exemption is not mentioned in the difficult forward moves section on P41 so if you only read that page you could come to the wrong conclusion.
