Players trolling people with well-known mismatches is one thing, but it doesn't have to be deliberate. I'm pretty sure there is someone out there who is still not on speaking terms with me because I innocently matched up Hannibal in Africa with one of the sparabara-dependent Achaemenid Persian lists. For those unfamiliar, the heavily armoured mediums of the Hannibal in Africa list happen to murder sparabara, and Hannibal's elephants render the heavily armoured Persian elite cavalry a joke. Learning how badly horse-based armies do against massed bows on rough terrain was fun. It was a little like controlling a machine gun nest where all the charging enemy soldiers were replaced by clones of Bambi's mum.
On the receiving end, picking out the Germanic Foot Tribes and leading them out against the Rhoxolani was a learning experience. I think I'm still pulling arrowheads out of myself a year on as my completely inadequate cavalry and skirmisher screen got promptly steamrolled.
Have you ever blundered into a mismatch?

I think if Ludendorf sometimes plays with armies other than Carthaginian Skirmisher Plus then everyone will be happy.

Hey, cut me some slack. I did just lead a Galatian heavy warband army against a horde of lancers.SLancaster wrote: ↑Fri Jul 24, 2020 12:29 am I think if Ludendorf sometimes plays with armies other than Carthaginian Skirmisher Plus then everyone will be happy.
Anyway, what is skirmisher plus? Is it like Amazon Plus, but the mailman throws a javelin through the mailbox if you don't answer the door in time?
(I know it is Numidian/Moorish allies.)

On a more serious note, some builds do come across as a bit gamey. That particular one I think might be one of them. But, generally the Classical section has armies that go toe to toe so maybe a little variation is good.

yeah I think in my first FOG2DL season I played as arab abbasid 874 and went all ghilman and light foot units against a massed offensive spear danish list with very little lights or cav support, and just shot them up with impunity and went ~40-0
I also remember losing about 0-40 the first time I went up against someone who used lancers to ZoC lock my entire line of legions before I knew what ZoC locking was.

I remember you teaching me that lesson! It may not have 0-40 but it is wasn’t pretty.

Gallic 300-101 BC vs Roman 280-220 BC. A complete mismatch, but not in the direction you would think.
