Weak AI with regards to Supply?

Post by OzHawkeye2 »

Having finally gotten 1.12 working now, I've played out (almost) my first game of CaeW in a while. Testing the waters to refresh my memory of it (it's been a while) I played a game as the Allies with no advantage to either side.

The AI seemed pretty bad when it came to Russia. I was repeatedly able to run German units out of supply by encircling them, at one point I encircled half a dozen units near Odessa, and another half a dozen near Pskov. Needless to say, they didn't get very far, in fact Pskov changed hands three times and Odessa once before there were virtually no Germany units left. The US and UK launched D-Day in mid '42 and by 43 had completely liberated France and Belgium were nearing Rome and were about to seize the Hague. Finland has already surrendered (once again, all three forward Finnish units were trivially encircled).

So, I guess my question is, is the AI just terminally weak? Against the AI must the advantage be set to "Huge" before its competitive? Are there any changes in the works to improve the AI, in particular with regards to not getting their units so easily surrounded?

I understand and accept it'll never be as good as playing against a human, but will the AI be looked at again, either in future patch or a sequel?

PS: Nice game though, I'm not trying to sound overly negative here.

No, the AI for CEAW is not going to be patched anymore sorry. In Commander Napoleon at War sequel the AI has been giving some improvements but these are not possible to retro fit back to CEAW since they are dependant on the situation of Napoleonic warfare and the diplomatic setup of the game in 1805.
