Axis Operations: Spanish Civil War Screenshot Thread

Post by monkspider »

Consider this a thread for sharing wacky and interesting screenshots of your greatest triumphs or various crazy happenings. Here was a moment from a scenario I completed earlier this evening. Trophies of War is an absolutely ESSENTIAL trait to have with this campaign just for the sheer fun factor. Check out the amazing haul of Bilbao Recon Cars I captured.

In the roll out for SCW they seemed to downplay the Bilboa , and it isn't like it's a wonder weapon.

But , gee , with a genrous haul like that , some players might be tempted to sacrifice a core slot or an auxiliary slot to field some Bilboa armored cars ! Who knows , at this point , if one checked the numbers it might turn out that the Bilboa is incrementally better than the German recon car ? Weirder things have happened in Spain.

Wow , I notice your aircraft colors ! I haven't bothered with camo in SCW , but it looks like I should review the subject !

Flying - Circus - type colors for aircraft are exactly what I have been looking for !

]Thank you! Yes, I do like to give my bombers wild colors to distinguish them and as a throw back to the German Empire. You might notice I also gave them the Kaiserreich-era Iron Cross insignia. I was soooo happy when I saw they added that as an option.

Here are a couple new screenshots for you. I managed a more glorious haul than even my 50 Bilbaos. If you keep Commadante Vega alive until Brunete he will spawn in a unique tank that you can't get ANYWHERE else in the DLC. Thats one of the things I love about this DLC, there are so many little details like that. For being a mere prologue, it is as deep as the ocean! And luckily with my trophies of war trait I managed to capture a SIGNIFICANT number! It is a unique flamethrower T-26. There is one more unique tank that appears in the very last mission. I plan to capture as many as I can and then upgrade one of my tanks mid-mission. I might just have to wait until 1939 though! Oh, and you can see the rather sizable number of normal T-26s I have racked up. I didn't plan for this play through to be my "canon" core but it might just have to be! I will have at least two solid cores to play through 1939 with.

Here's one more, eagle-eyed players might have noticed that one of the Republican corpses was modeled after a famous photograph that came from the Spanish Civil War.

The only solid color I use is the black one. It is indeed a bit too 'flying circus' to use the other flat colors.

I definitely dig the camo options though. Customization is always awesome in any game!

This is definitely the exact opposite of a triumph. I was playing on the Ebro map today, and had a bunch of turns of cloudy weather. When the weather cleared up on turn 22, I decided to send the recon over the front and found this:

8 more turns... Just 8 more turns...

Strategic view of it:

How did such a traffic jam form? Every attack wave randomed to the south, and just keep them bottlenecked on the river the entire game?

Maybe. Don't know. Stuff like this makes me wish for a replay function.

My tactic for the map seems prone to creating weird stalemates and attritional situations. The last time it happened at Asco, this time it happened at Miravet.

My guess is that since I lost the two points north of Miravet around turn 2 or 3 (really bad luck), the AI all pathed towards Miravet... and Miravet and Resquera somehow were able to get into a state where the AI in the cities never attacks out, and the AI on the bridges never attacks in. The other AI units crowded around, and It all just sort of locked up. The only units I had in that entire jumble by the point of that screenshot was an auxiliary Italian 75mm (the one that switches to AT or Art) covering Miravet and a flak covering the artillery. Everything else on my side of the river there was AI.After I noticed the blockage, I was afraid to attack it, just in case giving any one unit a place to move would cause everything to break through.

Even after the end of turn 30, the mass of the enemy force never moved from those crossings. And since I never was able to get a foothold across the river in the north (pushed back after killing artillery) or the far south (two T-26's sitting to block both bridges, not attacking until turn 28), I never really disturbed that equilibrium.

Check out the epic haul after my last SCW campaign, including rarities such as the OT-133 flamethrower T-26 which you can only get from Commadante Vega if you keep him alive for several scenarios and the Matilda I which can only be seen on the very last scenario. Oh, and I think I have enough normal T-26s to last me for a while. A very fun campaign I can't wait to import into 1939!
