Bru (has moved) up to 8.5.4
*Yawn* is your reaction. "Get with the program, Grandpa," and you're exactly right. So, more than an announcement, it's a request.
I was holding onto 8.3.0 for two reasons: graphics and bugs, beginning with 8.4.x.
The graphics have improved to the point where I can live with them; if I had a choice, I would still go with 8.3.0 but I understand the reasons for the changes and now, with 8.5.4, I find myself not overly disturbed by what I am seeing (laptop, 1920 x 1080). Thanks to the developers for their efforts in this regard.
The request is this: Now in 8.5.4, what are the major bugs that still are lurking? "Major" being subjective, of course, but would you care to share what bugs are still bugging you in 8.5.4?

FWIW, Bob additions are only in after 854, if that plays a role.

The music is better in 8.5.4.
Dubno has a back-up choir.

Ooooh. Now you are playing hard ball, eh?
I am thinking of making an OOB music loop and using it for a lullaby.
Well, the sound of crickets as a response to a call for major bugs in 8.5.4? That is a good sign. Still, I am hedging my bets, keeping them honest, not putting all my eggs in one basket, keeping a foot in both worlds, etc., etc.
This arrangement seems to work; I just need to keep a copy of my preferred options file handy because it resets to default when I change game versions.

You can run the standard OOB and Steam OOB concurrently, so you should be able to run your local at whatever old version you prefer and let Steam handle the update to the latest version.
I often playtest scenarios using the Korea mod while I work in the standard editor for'normal' stuff when the Korea AI is busy.

You know, that is not a bad idea at all. I may go with that setup. This way, I can always hold onto my beloved 8.3.0 if I want to. Odds are, though, that over time, 8.3.0 will fade into the background and ultimately disappear.

Re: Bru is thinking of moving up to 8.5.4
I tell you one thing. Whoever thought of putting in this message box scroll bar for the first time with 8.4.x, concurrent with the UI upgrade, is a ruddy genius. We saw that when they altered the fonts, the texts of messages that previously fit into the box would overflow instead. Without this scroll bar, all sorts of popup messages, in DLC and custom work, would have been truncated and that, my friends, would have been a disaster. Thank goodness (and developers) for this scroll bar.

The campaign message text box could stand a bit of tweaking, though. I am not saying "Hi" here; I am saying "His."
Needs to have just a bit wider margin on the right:

Re: Bru is thinking of moving up to 8.5.4
Yes, me too. It's funny how it does come back, though, with a bit of stimulus. The brain is remarkable for storing all sorts of stuff in cubbyholes that persist for decades. Yet, I cannot remember what I ate for dinner last night.
By the way, I am concentrating on 8.5.4 because I need to be on board with what you guys are looking at as I design and I don't want to miss out on any goodies. I wish it still looked like 8.3.0 but it's not so bad and the more I look at 8.5.4, the less I mind the differences.

Merci.
Here is another example. It's just the campaign/scenario description box; the briefing and popup message boxes are fine.

Such as this little guy.
"• Removed restriction on Zundapp for Editor"
I could have used him in a number of scenarios, scampering around, delivering messages, causing mayhem. And not just on behalf of the Germans, either.

Yeah, noticed the same thing, among others, in v8.4.4 already: It's in my "improvement suggestions" thread
Re: Bru is thinking of moving up to 8.5.4
I have already put the Zündapp to good use in a new midi campaign I'm wrapping up.
And yes, it may come in handy for other factions as well.
Funny how little things like this can warm a designer's heart

Re: Bru (has moved) up to 8.5.4
The transition is complete. A bit of self-hypnosis was called for, but I am now fully on board with 8.5.4.
There's just too much, now and in the future, to give up in order to stay in my 8.3.0 bunker forever. And I am encouraged by recent developer interactivity with the community and by timely patches and improvements to version 8.
Yes, *Yawn* is your reaction. But Grandpa finally did get with the program.

I have noted no change in the behavior of the AI.Mascarenhas wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 1:40 am Just in time to check Erik's recent remarks on AI behavior.
Re: Bru (has moved) up to 8.5.4
And I very recently discovered that the AI behaves normal in moving unit into vacant hex after a successfull attack.
