Marching or attack columns?

Post by Ghaznavid »

From today's game: Can an attackers in column, that is attacking through terrain which slows him, add the +1 MU bonus for moving in column to his charge distance? (If yes, I assume this also applies to evade moves as well, how about routs?)

Also (not directly related to above), do you already have to be in column to get the bonus or can you form the column during the move and still claim the bonus?

The +1 MU modifier doesn't have any restrictions. Charge, evade and rout are based on normal moves. I don't know of a reason why it would not apply, and it makes sense that it should apply.

I'd say (quickly - without looking at the rules) that you can't claim it for going INTO column. You'd have to read the +1 comment, but I think it says something like "IN" column. You're not IN column - you're forming column.

Looking at it from a 'realism' POV, the reason you get the +1 is because the lead troops are beating a trail that makes the rest easier to follow. This wouldn't be the case in forming a column. As it is, the guys on the far left or right have extra distance to travel to catch up :)
