Nicely done!

Division B
Nijis (Fatimid Egyptians) defeats markwatson360 (Andalusians) 36-15. (Andalusians surrendered).
A huge horde of Andalusian lancers backed by javelin-throwing light horse threatened to envelope both flanks of the Egyptian force. Rough terrain on one front, and some remarkably lucky morale checks by the Egyptian and Sudanese infantry on the other, helped the Fatimids drive them off, inflicting losses with their mounted and foot archers. The Andalusians rode off and left the field to the Fatimids, I'm guessing in part because their commander was needed elsewhere.

Division D
SawyerK (Pyrrhic with Samnites allies) defeated Najanaja (Roman with Greek allies) by 61 to 48 on the second to last turn.
It was a very tough battle with major units on both armies boring through their opponents battle line and then turning to come back against each other. The Romans had better cavalry which was used to good effect but the time that cavalry spent chasing defeated opponents was a critical factor in the outcome. Good game!

Division C
Karvon (Thracian, Triballi 350 BC with Getae allies) defeated phoyle3290 (Carthaginian, Hannibal in Italy, 216BC with Bruttian allies) 46-20 for a 4-0 win.
A large wood lay in my center left area and a couple of smaller woods with a hamlet were on my far right. A large ridge ran along the left center of the Punic area anchored on a large wood securing his left flank board edge. With my superiority in lights and medium foot, I was happy. I deployed the bulk of my army in or behind the woods on my left and a token force in the hamlet and neighboring woods on my far right. My reserve of 3 cavalry I held behind the woods on my left. I had a few llght horse scouts on each flank.
The Punic horde deployed on their hill initially. African spear supported by imitation legionaries formed the center with a number of Italian foot on their wings and in the rear. A large body of cavalry was in reserve. Their front was screened by a line of light foot with a few light horse.
The Carth lights pressed forward to scout the opposing woods where my token force lay. On discovery, they advanced their whole battle line to overwhelm my defenders. In a running fight, they eventually wiped all of these out but this took them some time and distance as they chased my survivors all the way into the far right corner of the field.
In the meantime, some of his horse and lights ran into the outer line of my main body in the large woods on my left. My skirmishers killed or drove off these off and he brought up his Italian foot supported by his Africans and more horse in an attempt to clear the woods. However, I had far more medium foot than he did, so this was doomed from the start. I fed more mediums into the fight and ground him down. My skirmishers wrapped around his right and wore down some of the imitation legionaries who were holding his flank. I brought my cavalry out and they began to work on flanking him, disrupting his Africans. His horse redeployed from his left in response. His infantry assault on the woods collapsed with the Italians all routed and his Africans routed or on the verge, leading to the final break of his army.

Re: Any questions . . .
So, it appears I have come last in my division for classical div C. Does that mean I get position 1 (1st pick - yay) or 10 (last pick - boo) when bumped into div D - or something else depending on numbers?

Re: Any questions . . .
Who knows? It will depend on the ratings of all the players in Division D next season.General Shapur wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 6:21 am So, it appears I have come last in my division for classical div C. Re: Second Time Control check is continuing . . .
I still haven't finished doing this yet. The Classical Antiquity, Biblical and Themed Event sections have passed the Time Control check and everyone is continuing. Elsewhere, there are 2 players who I will send "get a move on please" messages to in a moment and there is 1 player who I need to speak to who looks like they may have taken on too many matches. Until he picks up his PM I cannot take things any further but I do know he has multiple matches in progress, albeit very slowly at times. This is affecting Late Antiquity Division E and Early Middle Ages Division E. The other other divisions in those sections are fine.

Last call for MadMaxBot . . .
A couple of observations from the Second Time Control check this season. Some players are reporting to me that certain opponents are playing very slowly and certain opponents are not responding to challenges at all. There are 2 things you can do about this . . .
1) if an opponent does not make a move after 7 days have passed without giving any explanation then you are entitled to claim the match automatically using the in-game "stalled game" facility. You may do this even if you are losing the match and there is no need for you to try and contact your opponent - they should have contacted you to say there was going to be a delay. Alternatively, if you feel uncomfortable about doing this you can send your opponent a PM (cc'ing me into that PM) giving them 3 more days to continue the match. And then I will put the result up on the forum if there is no further progress.
This is the appropriate part of Rule 6 for these circumstances . . .
"After the first Time Control check has passed, if your opponent has not moved at all for 7 days without explanation then you are entitled to claim the match automatically by using the multi-player in-game facility provided."
2) if an opponent has not completed a match after a month has elapsed then you are entitled to claim the match. A little bit of commonsense is required here as there are a range of possible situations and it will need me to get involved in the process.
This is the appropriate part of Rule 6 for these circumstances . . .
"It is expected that all matches will be completed within one month of their starting date. Matches that continue for longer than one month may be adjudicated."
The Player's Guide section on Rule 6 gives a bit more extra detail . . .
"It is expected that all matches will be completed within one month of their starting date". Please note that the starting date is considered to be the date that the challenge for the match is first posted on the forum. So if you have a match that is coming up to being a month old and your opponent has either stopped playing, or is playing very slowly, please contact me by PM in the first instance and I will see if I can contact the player and get things moving again. If I cannot contact the player then the match will be sent for adjudication."
Please use these rules if you need to. It is not my intention that players should be kept hanging around for weeks and weeks waiting for a game to start. I have a bit more tolerance for delay in the first half of the season when things can be very hectic, but once the Second Time Control check has been done then I am quite keen to tighten things up so that players can gain the maximum enjoyment from participating in the FOG2DL.
