Division E
Stew101 (Thessalian 404 - 352BC, with Greek Allies) beat Barrold713 (Carthaginian Hannibal Africa 202 BC, with Numidain/Moorish Allies). Score 41 - 11.
Well in appears my belief that my paper tiger heavy infantry units need a hill was misplaced.
Not a hill in site on this map, so my heavy foot had to lurk around some patches of woods, acting as bait.
This they did brilliantly, whilst my lights and cavalry took defeated the parts of my opponents army they could.
Thanks very much for the game Barry, see you next time.

Re: Classical Antiquity: winners post your results here . . .
Just want to add a bit to this... it was a very back and forth battle. The Persian army had an excellent position on a hill behind a stream, lined with sparbara with archers shooting over their heads. My mediums went up against that line, and were chewed apart, while my pikes and legionnaires forced a crossing of the stream against the Persian hoplite auxiliaries. I was losing badly at first, then largely pulled the score back (though I don't think I was ever leading) as I crashed through the Persian right and tried to wheel about to engage their sparbara foot, and right at the end it was a race to 60% and my army gave way first. A very fun fight which went from me thinking it was largely over before it started to actually being a near-run thing!

Once Nellies get on the flank of a line in pursuit it blows scores out. Makes a change from the usual double drop frag nonsense of this season so far

Great opponent and really a close match. There was the possibility of a few early breakthroughs that Aetius may have gotten with the right rolls that would have most likely meant a win for him.

During the course of the trial I will listen to arguments that say the default size of the battles should be 1600pts (because larger sized battles won the poll) and that both players should have to opt for 1200pt armies to be able to play a medium sized battle. I do think it is incumbent on me to listen to player's views on the trial as it is taking place. But I will not listen to arguments that say all battles should be 1600pts in future. The poll result did not come to that conclusion and I will not be running any further polls on this subject.

A super cool opponent whose spearmen just decided they would rather leave the field than tangle with impact foot... immediately. Too bad as I thought we were going to have quite a few more turns to continue our fantastic conversation on music. Thanks for the game and looking forward to our next one!
