Vikings a la Ian

Post by DaiSho »

Hi All,

Here is the list I took to Leviathan:

Inspirational C-in-C
Troop Sub-General
Troop Sub-General
Field Irish Ally General

1. 8 Viking Archers - LF/Unprot/Av/Undrilled/Bow/-
2. 8 Viking Freemen - HF/Prot/Av/Undrilled/-/Offensive Spearmen
3. 8 Viking Freemen - HF/Prot/Av/Undrilled/-/Offensive Spearmen
4. 8 Viking Freemen - HF/Prot/Av/Undrilled/-/Offensive Spearmen
5. 6 Irish Warriors - MF/Unprot/Av/Undrilled/-/Heavy Weapon
6. 6 Irish Warriors - MF/Unprot/Av/Undrilled/-/Heavy Weapon
7. 8 Irish Javelinmen - LF/Unprot/Av/Undrilled/Jav/Light Spear
8. 4 Irish Nobles - MF/Unprot/Sup/Undrilled/-/Heavy Weapon
9. 6 Huscarls - HF/Armoured/Sup/Undrilled/-/HeavyWeapon
9. 3 Huscarls - LF/Unprot/Sup/Undrilled/Bow/-
10. 6 Huscarls - HF/Armoured/Sup/Undrilled/-/HeavyWeapon
10. 3 Huscarls - LF/Unprot/Sup/Undrilled/Bow/-
11. 6 Huscarls - HF/Armoured/Sup/Undrilled/-/HeavyWeapon
11. 3 Huscarls - LF/Unprot/Sup/Undrilled/Bow/-

The army seemed to go ok, but didn't really have an answer for Anton's Huns.

I'm considering a cavalry option with either Franks or Medieval French. If I do that of course I'll suffer against 'terrain' armies.

I guess it's just one of the hardships from being a Viking.

Palmyran (10mm - 15mm basing)

Along with a few other Wolves armies, you have good foot hardly any horse. But I think there will be a lot of Viking armies coming out now.

Yes, well, I'm thinking that the allies may allow me to push shooty cavalry armies into a difficult situation and then coup de grace them with the knightly types.

Hi Ian,
I'm using Breton Ally, deployng at the end mounted BG's (2 of Cv and 2 of LH) to protect wings or, on the basis of opponet deployment, beyond your BG that you plan will be able to wheel and so to protect a possible hole in the middle of your army.
I've tried and it sounds, considering also all you foot BG's are undrilled and so hard to manouvre.

The only worry you have is if the shooty cavalry match up with shock Lancers cause you can't go into one line and push the LH of the table without having the lancers charging you. Well thats what I've done when faced by a Norse Irish army. Still I think they are good armies in the book. :)

Yes, I've considered too that the mounted lancers of the Franks can give rear support to everything but my huscarls (due to numbers) so even if you have to hide them because of evil knight types they still have their uses.
