Mystery Deployment Hexes

Post by conboy »

Here is a mystery regarding deployment hexes appearing around friendly flags.

I have set up designated deployment hexes

at the forward line of troops. The deployment hexes only show there in the editor. (fist fig). Note that there are no deployment hexes around the US flags in the rear area.

But when I switch over to play mode (in the editor and in campaign mode) deployment hexes appear all around the cities that were captured in the previous scenario. (next picture).

I can't find any setting that converts a US flag to a deployment zone! what gives? Any ideas?

thanks in advance,
conboy

You can deploy at any flag location that is held by you or your allies AND is in an urban hex (town/cities). Villages don't allow deployment (though I seem to remember that one of variants does?) and that's what I use when I want a "town" that I don't want the player deploying at.

As Shards said, if you put a flag in a city, you are always gonna have the deployment area around (and in) that hex, not only in the deployment phase but during all the scenario. I don't remember if every flag (with or without VP associated) and every type of city (town, city, desert town, village) does the trick, but that is the general rule indeed.

Also I think something similar thing happen with ports and urban hexes, you will only have a functional port if you put and adjacent city.

Probably these kind of things are explicity stated in the design manual, but I learnt them (badly, as you can see) playing with the editor, to be honest

Thanks guys.
I guess I just never noticed it before.
Sort of like the brand name on cheap sunglasses.

So I guess it's ok.

Sometimes I mark flagged towns and surroundings as neutral in the editor. This prevents any unit deployment in the deployment phase (until the ownerships have changed).
