Division A
harveylh – Arab, North Africa 789-999 AD with Andalusian 756-1049 AD allies defeats Snugglebunnies – Vikings, Ireland 900-1049 AD with Irish 900-1049 AD allies, 40-9
A waiting game as the Arabs stayed in their deployment area for the Vikings to advance far enough. The Viking masterfully using their cavalry kept the Muslim cavalry flanking force from being a factor till the very end of the game. However, on the other flank, seven or eight squares away was a large force of mainly medium bow hiding in a large forest. Finally, the Vikings advanced far enough and the medium bow advanced to the flank. Fortunately, no armored huscarls were on that flank and the medium bow shot up the shieldwall and Irish kern units which allowed the main Arab battle line to successfully advance. GG

Re: Larger armies right across the FOG2 Digital League?
Yup I agree. With pike and warband armies the Classical section would feel better with more points. Probably the most logical section to go down in points would be the Biblical section as it has many cheap troop types.Schweetness101 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 5:46 pm I'd also like to see large battles for classical antiquity, because although medium size is fun they tend to feel more like large skirmishes than full battles. It looks like most people prefer a balance of sizes across eras though. Perhaps if classical antiquity was made large one of the others that are 1600 could be dropped back to 1200. Maybe just to mix things up.

Re: Larger armies right across the FOG2 Digital League?
In a way it's odd that Early Middle Ages has larger armies than Classical, when historically I imagine it would generally be the opposite based on what we know of army sizes.

Division A
Ludendorf (Carthaginian: Hannibal in Africa 202 BC) beat SnuggleBunnies (Roman 199-106 BC with Greek 227-146 BC allies) 60-41%
I managed to isolate SnuggleBunnies right and centre, but there were some scary moments on the left wing as he expertly matched his forces to my own weaker soldiers there. In the end, the weak centre strategy pulled through, but this was a nerve wracking game to close on in this tournament. Thanks to SnuggleBunnies for a tough game which had me questioning my judgement at certain moments.
