I'm trying to sort out exactly how units change their facing after entering combat, especially with multiple troops. I am aware of how non light vs. light combat won't turn the non light unit if it opens a flank to enemy non light. Anyway, here's some questions:
1. Is the facing corrected at the beginning of each player's turn for foot?
2. I have seen cavalry change facing immediately when presented with foot charging their flank. Does cavalry always change their facing immediately when faced with an additional combat?
3. Here's a basic scenario:
o
x o
If the unit is question is "x" and is now engaged in combat with both "o", he will split the difference and face diagonally, correct?
4.
o
- x o
How about now? (Let's assume he was facing right before being flank charged) (Also ignore the hyphen - just required to get this to look the way I intended)
There are more questions that could be asked, but let's start here and see if it clears up further scenarios as well.

Re: Unit facing as a result of combat
No, only at the beginning of the side's own turn.DanZanzibar wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 8:25 pm I'm trying to sort out exactly how units change their facing after entering combat, especially with multiple troops. If the enemy are foot yes. This is so that they can immediately break off.2. I have seen cavalry change facing immediately when presented with foot charging their flank. Does cavalry always change their facing immediately when faced with an additional combat?
No, it will stay facing the one it fought first.3. Here's a basic scenario:

It will stay facing the one it fought first.4.

Note that in each case, some men will turn to face each enemy in contact, but the facing of the unit as a whole is as displayed by the facing of the banner.

Thanks Richard - that clarifies a lot. I'm always impressed that the guy who designs the rules is so responsive on the forums.rbodleyscott wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 6:29 amNo, only at the beginning of the side's own turn.DanZanzibar wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 8:25 pm I'm trying to sort out exactly how units change their facing after entering combat, especially with multiple troops. Just a couple more clarifications if you don't mind...
1. Will foot always change facing towards their first attacker on their turn, even if they were engaged by multiple opponents in one turn? Or will no facing change occur once multiple opponents are involved?
Actually...I think that one clarification should do it.

Re: Unit facing as a result of combat
No, they will actually turn to face whichever opposing unit they are closest to already facing. So if they are already facing any of the opposing units, they won't turn at all.DanZanzibar wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 3:59 pm 1.
