Another supply puzzler

My Russian infantry unit is in a bottom map edge hex but why is he out of supply? I thought edge hexes were a supply source or has it been changed in the latest update? The only other possible explanation I can think of is that he's in a Thick forest hex which might have something to do with it?-





PS- rather than start a new post, i'll tag the following question onto this post-
Below is the screen that comes up at the start of Random battles, but what does it mean exactly?
For example suppose I choose 'Infantry General', will that make all my infantry stronger in some way?
And why does it ask my 'weaknesses'? What cheek!
He's not a 'Hero' is he, and does it matter what mugshot I select, and why does it ask me to type my name?




PS again- a bit of eye candy, below is the Gotha 229A fighter, it's the best the Germans have got, its air-to-air strength is a whopping 24 and it's not something you'd like to meet on a dark night..

Perhaps it is because they are in thick forest? I know it acts as a supply blocker (see Kiev scenario, west bank of the city; the thick forest hexes northwest of the city block supply).

And yes, other than choosing your photo at the beginning, it doesn't serve any purpose thereafter. At least your name pops up in some messages, but otherwise it pretty useless too.

The in game map actually extents an additional hex [half hex?] that you can not see.
Those off map hexes are in German zones of control, so supply is blocked.

And why does it ask my 'weaknesses'?

He thinks you may be a fool and is looking to exploit you.

It's called immersion.
In place of giving you a Victory celebration at the end of the campaign, they ask your name at the beginning, because it's easier.
