CarpetBomb is a trait for Strats.
If you use a Strat to bomb a ground target you 'carpet bomb'.
I don't believe trait affects naval attacks.

It has been modified in the new update, the effects of the changes to be determined.
There comes a time on every project when it is time to shoot the engineer and ship the damn thing.

"Carpet Bombing" requires the usage of 'Strategic-Bombers':

The... "Strategic Bombers" main purpose is to "Suppress"[Renders the opponent into a state of being unable to effectively-resist], instead of causing mainly "Physical-Damage". It does this by mainly... 'reducing Entrenchment-Levels' as well as... reducing the supplies of 'Fuel & Ammunition'.

For example... if the Opponents 'Fuel-Supplies' are reduced... then it is forced to retreat... it will not be able to retreat as far as it otherwise normally would. If 'Ammunition-Supplies' are reduced... and you have a concentration of units either surrounding it or attacking it piecemeal... unit by unit... the Opponent will only be able to respond to your assaults by returning fire... so long as it has available ammunition to do so. Reducing 'Entrenchment-Levels' means that now... your salvos fired at the Opponent are much less prone to missing the target... therefore... your dealt damage-hits will be more damaging or effective.

Strategic Bombing in PC2 is much more rewarding than in PC1.

In game just as in history, there were Strategic Bombers and Tactical Bombers. Just make it a habit to hover your mouse over the "trait" icons when you have a unit selected or are in the unit purchase screen. You will notice some planes have a low flying trait relative to others planes. Note that Anti-Air units have traits that make them more useful at either shooting high or low altitude targets.

I personally deploy Bombers in two main roles: Suppression of entrenched enemies and Anti-Shipping.

A typical tactic I do: while artillery and infantry are attacking the nearest objective I am already thinking/ordering my Strategic Bombers to hit the NEXT objective. After a couple turns of bombing the enemies 10/10 entrenchment will be down to it's base entrenchment level... then the infantry and artillery have an easier job when they arrive to take that particular objective. I think of Strategic Bombers as flying artillery basically - suppress and tear up enemy entrenchment wherever it is encountered before sending in my guys on the ground.

Tactical bombers I use to hit priority threats - that is anywhere I am feeling too much pressure from the enemy. This typically means enemy units on the move, not in an entrenched situation. If there is no immediate threat of enemy attacks I usually target the most vulnerable enemies - like something crossing a river, on a bridge or anything out it open terrain. The Stuka is probably my favorite combat aircraft of WW2. But don't underestimate the usefulness of the Bf 110s in-game. You can fly attack missions and not have to worry as much about escorting them with fighters thanks to their air defense stats - and they have great range.

Simply put:
Strategic Bombers = Suppress
Tactical Bombers = Kill

I highly recommend using strategic bombers against pioneers and heavy infantry before attacking ground units. Bomber robbed of their movement, and these can retreat only 1 hex.

Personally, I do not like this situation.

Is it visible anywhere how much move points a unit has left? I can't even keep track of my own units before an overrun attack, let alone the enemy...

No, this is nowhere to be seen. This is a lack of UI.

If Stats Panel is open, then you can see remaining move points there. But we'll add some more obvious way to see them.

Eye-candy time:- I just checked out the Russki strategic bombers stats, they all have the same traits and can make enemy units bleed real bad with carpet-bombing, as can the strat bombers of all nations-

Here's some reading material for the weekend, an excerpt from Chester Wilmot's 'The Struggle for Europe' about allied carpet-bombing in Normandy-

Cheers!
I never used that small panel - somehow it bothered me at the first glance, so I kept it off. Now I have a use for it. :)
I remember turn-based games that marked while planning the move how many points does it cost to take a certain route; and the strength plate contains the number of ammo remaining already, so maybe it could contain the number of moves remaining as well.
