How is war score calculated?

Post by kvnrthr »

I'm curious how battle defeats, regions taken, units lost etc. factor into the war score. Is there a time decay? Are each of these individual events added up or is there some way it takes into account the whole situation.

Many times a nation declares war on me, wins a bunch of victories against my regional garrisons when I'm not paying attention. Then I wipe out all their forces and besiege their capital, but my war score is still negative. So they still propose peace that still requires me paying THEM concessions, and at that point I just wipe out the faction. I am in reality in a far better position than they are, but somehow the score didn't reflect that.

You are probably right here, Warscore does not change over time even if you have supremacy, and it probably should to prevent deadlock ... this was done like this in previous AGEOD games what's more?

Currently you gain or lose warscore depending of units losses (incl. garrisons), leaders killed and regions conquered. No decay over time.

War score is also a bit strange when it comes to claiming occupied territories after a long war from factions that are spread out. As you build up an occupied region its intrinsic worth increases (sometimes considerably if it's a very long war and/or the other regions belonging to the owning faction are spread out) from the time it was first occupied, and yet the WS value for that region is based on the region's _current_ value, not it's value at the time of occupation. This means that when peace negotiations finally do start you can face real trouble claiming the built up occupied region that you've controlled for decades, often being forced to resort to wiping out the faction entirely to break the deadlock. Fixing the WS value of a region at the point of occupation would stop this bizarre behaviour.

DISCLAIMER: I haven't yet encountered this same scenario in the new DLC so maybe it's fixed.
