CHANGING DIFFICULTY LEVEL IN MID CAMPAIGN

Post by PongoDeMer »

Could somebody please tell me how to change the difficulty level in mid campaign? There is nothing that enables you to do this in options, and no difficulty setting tab when you boot up the next scenario. It should be possible to go into the coding and change the setting via notepad, if someone could tell me how. I am 9 scenarios into a campaign and the last one is impossible on the current difficulty setting. I really don't want to have to re-play the lot on a lower difficulty setting!!

Thanks in advance,

Pongo de Mer.

You need to do this when you are in the campaign screen before launching the next scenario.
It is one of the tabs in the lower left of the screen.

Apologies for being unintelligent, but I'm not sure what you mean. When the scenario ends, a box comes up saying I have been defeated. There is no change difficulty tab. I then press the replay button and the briefing and setup comes up. Again, no change difficulty tab. The only option is to hit the turn (hour glass) button and play the whole scenario again with the same difficulty setting.

The only change difficulty tabs I can find are a) at the very start of the campaign, and b) in the scenarios tab in the box that comes up after I have pressed 'Single player' in the Jap battleship screen. To clarify, when I do this, I get the box with the campaigns, scenarios, and load game tabs at the top. The default setting is 'Campaigns' and there is no change difficulty function. The Change difficulty tab only comes up at the bottom when the Scenarios tab is selected. In my case, the Red Star folder is shown at the top of the scenario list. When I open it, the only scenario showing is (again in my case) the Summa '40 scenario. There is no Viipuri scenario showing, even though I have played it right the way through to the end.

What do I do?

Replay button does not help in this case, as it only reloads your scn. In campaign mode you need to go back to your last campaign save, so before you start the next scenario.

Note this is where you see the campaign map showing the location of your next battle. There are those tabs/buttons Erik mentioned. This works in each campaign, between scenarios.

Many thanks for helping.

I am now at the end of the Viipuri scenario at turn 24 out of 24. I am about to be told I have lost. The file name is (Red Star) Auto Save (Turn End) In the big white box under the first line of buttons is the following: Campaign: Red Star Scenario: Viipuri Current Turn: 24/24. If I press the hourglass button, I will be told that I have lost and asked if I want to play the scenario again. The big question is how do I get the Campaign screen with the difficulty level buttons to come up from here?

One problem I have been having is that when I try to save, I have been getting a box with the following message: "The file you are trying to save already exists. Are you sure you want to overwrite it?" On the screen that comes up, there is no way at all of doing a 'save as' and giving the saved scenario a different name, so I have been hitting the yes button.

What have I been doing wrong, and is there any way of resetting the difficulty level without having to begin the entire campaign again?

Thanks in advance,

If you're at the end of any scenario still, you could always cheatcode to the next using the "igotnukes" cheat.

Then you get to the campaign screen, where you ca set the difficulty before progressing to the next battle.

I've never used a cheat code before. In simple language, how do I do it?

Problem solved.

I found out how to enter the appropriate cheat code.

On reflection, I think I will write up this particular tale of woe and post it on the appropriate forum. I am an experienced wargamer and what I think happened is that the scenario designer got the scenario length very slightly wrong. If it had been two to five turns longer, it would have been perfect. I design scenarios myself (but not as yet for this game) and I know just how easy it is to get something like that wrong when you know where everything is, including the exact order of battle plus location of the enemy force. The only way to get around it is to get someone else to test the scenario, or to come back to it a month or two later, when you have forgotten what and where everything is.

Time for a cup of tea.
