idea for positioning troops pre battle in FOGE

Field of Glory: Empires is a grand strategy game in which you will have to move in an intricate and living tapestry of nations and tribes, each one with their distinctive culture.
Set in Europe and in the Mediterranean Area during the Classical Age, experience what truly means to manage an Empire.

idea for positioning troops pre battle in FOGE

Post by SGZ »

I'd love to see the ability to position troops pre battle in FOGE. A suggested method would be to enable generals to "spend" a dice roll to do so. ie 2 star attack general could position troops but then only get 1 extra die roll in battle. General w no stars or army without a general couldn't pre position manually. I reckon this would add some interest to the battles in FOGE ( which I prefer to use than those in FOG2) and retain the elegant system.

What do you think Pocus ?

Pre positioning would probably requires dozens of hours of work, perhaps amounting to a whole DLC or near to that in amount of work. Positioning is not perfect, but I'll try to improve on it. Also, you can have perfect pre-positioning by playing the battle in FOG II in extreme cases.

Thank you Pocus for looking into this! Battlefield deployment problems are perhaps the most annoying (because are counter-intuitive/unrealistic and stakes are high) issues that the game had since release (therefore their unpopularity). I suggest the most important and easiest fix would be to always deploy, in 2nd row, the best support-units first, and anything else after (I've discussed this extensively here); but of course there might be things I am missing..

To me that would be time well spent and add greatly to the immersion in this awesome game. I'd pay for any DLC that had that feature in it. And thanks for the quick reply.
