FoGII/FoG:E vs PC/PC2

Post by AAntares »

Hi all,

quick question for all armchair generals out there, I am wondering which game is your favourite among FoGII/FoG:E vs PC/PC2 series and if you have time/willing to share why.

I am asking because am willing to buy one of them but I am not sure which one, initially I was sold for PC2 but after to have read some FoGII/FoG:E topics I am really undecided.

Community seems strong for both games, games support as well...

Give me your thoughts! :D

two totally different types of games and series tbh, it's hard to say what is the same between them, apart from there all war games,

FOG2 is a follow on, new engine and design, same developer, and a master class in it's own, add in the FOGE part, and you have the best of both worlds, as FOGE again has a epic developer, and new engine and works well as a standalone but also now works great with FOG2 for the time period.

where as Panzer Corps 1 needs no explaining as it's the class leader for most in hex based war games for WW2, where as PC2 is just a newer engine and design and is also from one of the best designers and studios out there in the war gaming world.

tbh it's apples and oranges to compare what is totally different fruit / games.

preferences are personal opinions and i love them all, but can't say which one i like more, as again i love them all for different reasons, as there all different.

it all depends on what period of war you wish to fight, BC / AD or WW2 etc etc

You are right, surely my question is wrong, open to many variables!
I am perfectly aware they are different games and that the answers are totally personals, just want to hear some opinions about them :D

Community is a big plus for me and it seems both have a great one. MP is important too.
About period: I am fine with both, maybe WWII a bit better.

Thanks for your advices!

Edit: nevermind, I just bought PC2

My favourite is the original Panzer Corps game. I love everything about It. The most important thing - It has a ton of content and the replayability is great.
In FOG 2 I don't like the graphics, but the game itself is good, especially if you are a fan of the time period. (I prefer Pike and Shot though) New campaign system is nice, various army lists and historical challenges are also enjoyable.
Make love, not war.

Go with the one that interests you more. I have a soft spot for Field of Glory II but if Germany in WW2 is more your thing go with PC2. For a wider look at WW2 Order of Battle is also worth considering.

FoGII has a great MP community. However it is pretty much just focused on tactical battles unless you get Empires too (which is more empire management / map based conquest and diplomacy).

Example of what a FoGII battle can be like (note the footage is cut together as the MP is asynchronous turn based via Slitherine's PBEM++ Server): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXm7N7ZWq2I

Nice video, thanks for sharing.

In these last days I bought PC2 and FGII (very happy with them) but I also looking for MP games, for what I can see/read, the best MP game is FoGII without any doubt.

Added in the wishlist :D

I can also recommend the Pike and Shot: Campaigns game, if you like FoG2 (Or Sengoku Jidai if you are into the Japanese history - those games are similar). The AI is good, the replay value is great and the historical campaigns are super challenging sometimes. The game is quite easy to mod, there are many great mods now - for example, medieval battles and even the american civil war or the zulu wars in Africa. I like the combat rules, the simplicity - just read the base manual and you are ready to go.
Make love, not war.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Still not sure if I like FoGII because I don't have the game yet (at the moment I am playing PC2 and FGII) but the chance are high!
What I am looking for is a game with a good MP community and I have games ongoing with both the previous titles.

Anyhow I am not a huge fan about this era...
