Now, it is the turn for the B-25 bomber. This first batch is for the American units. I made some research about the different variants of the type and made the following icons, with some detailing about tail and waist defensive positions, dorsal turret placement, amongst others:

B-25C: This represent all the early variants, with a bomb aimer position in a "transparent" nose. The B-25C and D models were the first ones produced in significant numbers to equip several squadrons. Made some detailing in the tailgun defensive position.

B-25H: Gunship version, with a 75 mm gun installed in a shorter, blunter nose. Different tail gun position.

B-25J: The definitive version, which was produced in the larger numbers, at first was produced with a bomb aimer post in a transparent nose, but after finding that the major part of the missions were executed at low level, the bomb aimer position was replaced with a solid nose with eight 12,7 mm machine guns, and the bombs were aimed and launched by the pilot (no need for a complex bomb sight and a dedicated crewman to aim the bombs from such a low height). So, this icon has the "solid" nose, but if needed, can easily be made another version of it with a glazed nose.

B-25J-late: The same as above, but with a "bare metal" finish. In fact, as I could see and read here and there, many B-25 operative units kept the camouflage paint on their aircraft till the end of the war (contrary to B-26 and A-26 units, for example). Nevertheless, there was some units who operated "paintless" aircraft.

I think that for B-25 and B-26 units (for example) the variants with a bomb aimer in a glazed nose, can be given a switch to make them strategic bombers (beside their normal state of tactical bomber) to represent their ability to make high altitude bomber attacks, provided by the bomb aimer crew member and specialized sighting equipment present in those aircraft.

So, here are all the icons present in this pack. Coming next are the SE variants (with D-Day stripes) of those variants.

Enjoy!

Well, being quarantined, it is not that I can work a lot at home... The down side of this situation is that being a self-employee, my income went down to zero...

Anyway, to help with free time, I am working on some icons taken more or less at random. This time, I took the Lublin R-XIII Polish army cooperation aircraft, wich is represented by a nice looking icon, but can be improved in my humble opinion. What were my modifications:

- Made the icon somewhat smaller. (It looked a large icon for an aircraft with little more than 8 m in lenght)
- Made the wings more pointed.
- As a bonus, I added an hidroplane version: the Lublin R-XIII/ter-hydro.

I hope you like them... 8)

Something about another Polish aircraft type: The PZL P.46 Sum. I made a more "vanilla looking" icon for this aircraft.

This was an aircraft designed for the recon and light bomber roles, to replace the PZL P.23 in Polish Air Force service. Unfortunately, its production was started by the Polish industry, but could not complete any of those aircraft before the colapse of Polish armed forces defending against the German and Soviet invasion... So, it would be some kind of "what if" unit.

Back to the technical side of things, this aircraft incorporated a retractable ventral gondola for the bomb aimer position, which also had a defensive machine gun firing to the rear and ventral defensive sector. Because of this fact I decided that it would be possible to introduce a "switch" to this unit:

- Recon Switch: better speed and air defense, less ground and air attack values.

- Bomber Switch: lower speed and air defense, but better ground and air attack values.

This will not make this aircraft a war-winning unit, but I think this adds a little more variety to the use of this unit.

Credit goes to Wurschtmaxe who made the original icon, and saved me a lot of work. 8) I hope you like it!

Very well. It was one of the first icons I created. And now it looks better :D But remember: the Polish Air Force applied the national sign (szachownica) asymetrical on the wings... 8)

Hello Wurschtmaxe:

You are completely right about upper wing insignia painted on Polish aircraft, the one present on the right semi-wing was positioned closer to the fuselage than the one painted on the left semi-wing. I didn´t noticed that detail... Fortunately, it is not dificcult to make that modification on the icon of the P.46 (and also to the other Polish aircraft present in my collection!). Thanks for the info, I will make and upload a "Polish Aircraft Pack" of all icons with the correct insignia positioning.

Also, is a good thing that someone who can make very nice icons like you, gives a positive comment about my work. That encourages me! Again thanks for this and for the feedback!

PS: Congratulations for the nice looking, big lot of icons you made for PAK mod!

More Polish aircraft with their insignia correctly drawn. This time is the turn of the PZL P.23 wich is available in the historically correct green color and the "vanilla looking" brown... Enjoy!!

Hello to all...

Finally, here is a complete pack of every Polish aircraft present in my collection, reworked and updated. It contains the vanilla game units, plus some more, including a couple of "what if" units (which were historical, but never made it to combat units, or even to the prototype stage), like the PZL P.46 light bomber/recon aircraft and the P.50 and P.55 fighters (this last one, was a project only). All of them available in the brown "vanilla style" color and also in the more historical green color used by Polish aircraft in 1939. Their insignia are all correctly displayed in thier historical placement.

Have fun! 8)

Meanwhile, in the Pacific theatre...

The Mistsubishi Ki-46 was a specialized reconnaisance aircraft, which entered in service in june 1941, and had so good performances that it was almost impossible to intercept, until advanced versions of the Spitfire, Mustang or Lightning fighter types entered in service for the Allies.
According to Wikipedia, the first version (Ki-46-II) could reach a max speed of 604 km/h and an operative ceiling of 10700 m, which were pretty good values for an aircraft operative in 1941. Also, as we can read in the Wikipedia, this aircraft performed clandestine recon flight over British Malaysia before the date of thaattack on Pearl Harbor.

Another notable fact is that this aircraft was also operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy, notwithstanding that it was produced for the Japanese Army Air Forces... Bearing in mind the rivalry that always was present between the Japanese Army and Navy, this tells us about the good performances of this aircraft.

Besides all that, this aircraft was, in my opinion, one of the best looking ones of that era... :-)
