I have now sent PM's to all players on the list above with their prize voucher numbers. My thanks, once again, to Slitherine for sponsoring our tournament.

End of season round-up . . .

Post by stockwellpete »

End of Season round-up

We did very well with recruitment for this season attracting 67 players, including 12 new players playing in the FOG2DL for the first time. The extra numbers enabled us to run a third division in the Biblical section again after a 2 season gap. It was noticeable though that a number of the top-rated players did not return to play, including pantherboy and ruskicanuk who were always likely to win the sections they had entered.

In Classical Antiquity, Geffalrus successfully defended his Division A title using another of his favourite pike armies, but it was very close with Nosy_Rat and harveylh finishing just behind him. In addition, herm, who was playing in his first season in the top flight, finished in a very creditable fourth place just 4 points off the lead. Elsewhere, Schweetness101 triumphed in Division B ahead of IMC, desertedfox and paulmcneil, who all got fairly close, while phoyle3290 and lydianed found the pace a bit too hot to handle this time. GDod deservedly won Division C, and just behind him came Ulysisgrunt, who had suffered 2 relegations in the previous 2 seasons, but who now seems to be on his way back up again! Bluefin was very unlucky to be relegated given that he won 3 of his matches – it is very rare for that to happen. A new player, Macedonczyk, was far too strong in Division D although Swuul also did well enough to be considered for promotion. Macedonczyk is nailed on for Division B status next season. And poor old GeneralKostas got the wooden spoon this time, but he’ll be back I’m sure.

It was “business as usual” for dkalenda in Late Antiquity Division A as he romped to the title with 9 straight wins. Snugglebunnies and Xlegione filled the other medal positions and Morbio did very well to finish fourth in his first season in the top flight. At the bottom Schweetness101 had a very difficult season with the Kushans, but I am expecting him to return to the top flight for Season 9. Division B was incredible. In the end only 8 points separated the top 6 players and one-third (15) of the matches ended in a draw. This has to be a record. Questar17 eventually took the automatic promotion place, but he was just 2 points from defeat in his last match against Nijis when nightfall saved him. One more turn and Nijis would have won and finished top, but in the end he had to settle for fourth place. And, at the bottom, Challenge1 heroically avoided automatic relegation without winning a match all season – 5 score-draws were enough to relegate IMC! ConstantinIX was far too strong for Division C and he finished 10 points clear of SawyerK who did very well to get 6 wins in his first season at this level in Late Antiquity. Another new player making an impact straight away was vvanttin who completed a clean sweep in a Division D that also included Macedonczyk, while baldrick52 ended up with the wooden spoon.

A fantastic struggle at the top of Division A in Early Middle Ages saw Nosy_Rat and harveylh face off against each other in the deciding match with both players having posted 8 straight wins. Nosy_Rat emerged the victor on this occasion, but I think it is only a matter of time now before harveylh wins one of the titles. Schweetness101 blasted his way into the top flight next season by winning all 9 of his matches in Division B, while runner-up Cunningcairn is well-placed to move up should a vacancy arise. At the bottom Challenge1 escaped relegation more conventionally this time leaving IMC to suffer a second relegation for this season. All I can say is watch out for IMC next season if you are playing in Division C because he is not far off getting into Division A of Classical Antiquity. Pompeytheflatulent was far too good for everyone else in Division C and is almost certainly an A-rated player already. I know this because he has beaten me about 8 times in a row in friendlies! MikeMarchant did very well to finish in second place while at the bottom remf220 heroically won his last match to redeem my dreadful decision to put him in Division C in his first season. I do apologise. Macedonczyk completed another clean sweep in Division D, ahead of the promising newcomer Swuul, while GeneralKostas secured his second wooden spoon of the season eclipsing Barrold713’s increasingly desperate efforts to add to his cutlery draw.

Biblical was the section most affected by the coronavirus pandemic with adjudications being decisive in deciding the outcomes of the top of Division A and the bottom of Division C. In the end it was dkalenda who narrowly pipped klayeckles for the Division A title after their unfinished match was adjudicated as a draw. At the bottom Ulysisgrunt has begun his descent after previously shooting up through the divisions (he does this in Classical Antiquity as well, as if to say “I can play in any division I like really” ). Of course the big story in this division was the theft of ianiow’s camels by harveylh and it will be interesting to see their new FOG2DL player ratings to see who gets army preference next time. You can bet your like that ianiow will nick those camels back if he gets the chance! :P pompeytheflatulent triumphed over nyczar in an exciting competition in Division B and both players seem destined to play in Division A next season. lydianed also had a very good season while MikeMarchant found it all a bit too much at the bottom. lunecastle went unbeaten in Division C to take the top spot, but edb1815 always remained close enough to take advantage of any potential slip up. At the bottom, a number of matches involving kerrak were adjudicated because of the coronavirus situation in Spain and it was kerrak who ended up with the wooden spoon. He tells me he will return in future but with a different army!

The Themed Event continued to throw up surprises and this time it was Breogan who triumphed in a very close final against fellow-organiser hidde. Breogan’s last major success was when he won Division A of the “From Cyrus to Tigranes” section in Season 1 so he was really the underdog in the final. GDod also did very well to reach the semi-finals this time.

So that’s the round-up for another season. It has been an excellent competition to run and there was only one match that did not start if we exclude the coronavirus affected matches. Thanks to everyone who has responded to my messages this season and has pointed out errors in the tables and charts. I cannot always reply to every single PM because I send and receive so many. We can all have a breather now until I send out the next batch of invitations on Monday May 18th in preparation for the opening of Season 8 on June 1st. Cheers everyone! :D

Re: Brand new Army statisics now available!

Complete army ratings (Seasons 1-7 combined)

Key to table
This is very straightforward. The numbers after the army name represent wins - draws (or ties) - losses. The table takes no account of the skill levels of the players using the army, it just gives the playing record of each of the armies that have been used in the competition. Any allies used (from Season 5 onwards) are disregarded - this table just uses the main component of the army. Obviously the higher the numbers involved with a particular army then the more meaningful the figures become as the disparity in skill levels between the various users is evened out.
