How to play mulltiplayer over the internet?

Post by boxster1 »

I am unable to either host or join a multiplayer game. I create the game, hit the host button and set the time limit for turns but the tick box to start is not activated (although the x box is to leave the screen). I think the game will be great against a human foe but just cannot start or join a game. Help! My foe has the exact same problems. We have both disabled our firewalls. Any suggestions how to solve this? Is it something to with having to load a scenario first? I also cannot change the IP address under the host section and it is not my IP address?

Johan will correct me if I'm wrong but I think you need to host on one machine. The IP of the host will be shown on their machine. This IP needs to be given to the client. The client needs to join the hosts game using that IP address. Once the client has joined the buttons will be activated.

Alternatively if you can't get it to work PBEM is very popular and ideal for this type of game.

Yes you need to type in the correct IP adress of the host before you join a game.

You'll need to open a TCP port on the host's router. Then you'll need to know the EXTERNAL IP address of the host (google "What is my IP").

There is more information in the Multiplayer Sticky in the main forum.

Hope that helps

If you have problems just play the game by PBEM. No router issues and it works very well :)

If you are playing against someone a little more technical, they can do all the work at their end, and they just need to provide you with their host address to play on. Beyond that it will depend on your internet connection setup if you need more specific help.

Cheers
