PC2 won't start invalid target location

Hey, this is probably answered somewhere but I cannot find it yet.

Bought the Download and hard copy, will have to wait a few weeks for the hard copy due to corona.

Click my shortcut and get :

Invalid target location
Error: could not find indicated location C:\Progrram Files| Slitherine\PanzerCorps2.exe


What the heck does that mean?

Right click on your shortcut & 'open file location'.
If this doesn't take you to the 'exe file' in the main dir then re-install.
btw, my install path is Program Files x86/Slitherine/Panzer Corps2.

I right click and see the exe file but still nothing. I just followed what the download told me to do from the Slitehrine website. Are there any download instructions I can read anywhere?


I don't know how to screen shot anything because I just started using windows 10 a few months ago so I guess I am just going to have to wait for my physical copy.

Well I don't think that I was clear in my first post.

Now doing my third install of the game.

It installs to the direct x driver part then I get an error that says the drivers won't install because they are already present.

Click the shortcut, the main screen pops up and I can view the pdf manuals but cannot play or activate the map editor.

The map editor gives me Editor.exe- system error
This code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME 140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

I did not notice that Steam added its intermediate page, direct link is:

It's Visual C++ redistributable needed to run the game. Judging by this:
This code execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME 140.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.
it is not present on your machine.

I'm not sure why it was not installed together with the game, but installing it separately might help.

Got it, I clicked the update button from the main game menu and it now is downloading a newer version of the game. That is so weird, I bought it directly from Slitherine you would think they would sell me the most up to date version correct?

It is currently downloading and it is a huge file like it is downloading the whole original game again. Hope it fixes the issue. Might just have to re-install my old Panzer Corps game but I am sure it won't run on Windows 10 either. I still got my original Panzer General game disk and it runs fine in DosBox!!!!

We've released a new patch today. Yes, you can install it and see if it helps.

Panzer Corps should work under Windows 10. It works for me.

Well no luck. 3 attempts at downloading the new game version.
1. computer totally shut off on it's own
2. computer went to sleep after 30 minutes and quit downloading. Reset for always on no sleep option.
3. download error to server

2+ hours on this alone.

Was going to purchase the Panzer Corp gold edition with all the dlc's but don't think so now if I can't even get this one to work.

Well that won't work either, gives me an error with a log file viewer.

I remember seeing that C+ installer and it also gave errors during installation. That could be it but I don't know what it is or how to fix it.

Right. That probably explains why it was not installed together with the game in the first place. We've seen this Microsoft installer failing before, though it's rare and exact reasons are unknown.

And unpack it to the game's install folder? This should have the same effect as installing the redist.

How do you unpack it in the game install folder? I have it downloaded and with all these blind downloads all my bank accounts are wiped out by now.

Yes sorry, I know, it is annoying. But it's a rare issue. If we are successful with this experiment, we'll use this knowledge to improve game installer in the future.

About how to unpack the file - I'm not sure what version of Windows you are on? For example, in Windows 10 the procedure is this:

Sorry I didn't respond again last night, my computer decided it had had enough and started freezing up and was unresponsive so I shut it down for the night.

I have Windows 10. The question is in what folder do you want me to unpack that file? Looking at the game file I do not see an install folder. There is engine, launcher, manuals, panzercorps2 ect files.

Just the root game's folder. The one which has engine, launcher, manuals, panzercorps2 etc. inside as subfolders.

Okay, I unzipped the file in the panzercorp2 folder and they are all listed along with the other game files. Did not work.

I uninstalled today and re-installed with my antivirus turned off but no luck.

Now my computer is freezing and crashing all the time since I have been trying to fix this game. Lot's of freeze ups that never happened before.

I got an email also that I was to look for a file named PanzerCorps2.exe in the c:\program files\slitherine\panzercorps2.exe and that file is not there. Apparently the main file is quarantined by my anti-virus?

Looks like that, yeah. There must be PanzerCorps2.exe in the game's root folder, and also another (bigger) EXE in PanzerCorps2/Binaries/Win64 subfolder. If any of them is missing, this needs to be fixed.
