Field of Glory: Empires - Persia 550 - 330 BCE is coming soon

Post by Daniele »

One of the most innovative videogames in the grand strategy genre is ready to strike again.

Field of Glory: Empires - Persia 550 - 330 BCE new campaign starts 2 centuries before the Empires campaign. It brings players at the time when Athens and Sparta were still vying for supremacy over Hellas world while the Achaemenid Empire is more and more looming on the other side of the Aegean Sea.

This DLC adds new custom content for each faction in the game. Every nation will receive new sets of tools to further their goals alongside a totally revamped system of Impediments and Perks.

Federate some barbarians, form new colonies, decide to declare the Olympic Games, and many more options available!
Major nations of this time have seen a ‘special’ focus. Don’t expect to play Persia as you play Athens or Lydia! New Events, missions, national modifiers, special units and specific buildings will make you play differently.

I hope so. I would very much like to see new mods and I'll gladly answer questions from modders if they have any.

I am glad the game is being improved (even with a new separate time-span campaign). Can you continue the new campaign into the existing campaign up to 190AD? I would have preferred improving the current campaign by moving the starting year from 310BC to 550BC, like PDX did with their DLCs. Will any new features in the new campaign be also in the existing campaign?

Personally I am not a fan of ‘special focus’/mechanics for each faction, as PDX does. I do not think it makes the game more realistic overall, rather the opposite (like why a nation can do something, but others not?). Personally, rather than all this, I want (and would pay for) any of the things that I (and others) commented in the forum (like option to see all buildings icons on map, "equal/fair" difficulty option, no soft-cap depending on starting region pop., generals leveling up like troops do, fixing battlefield deployment issues, battles more like FoG2, realistic/cinematic "continuous play" for battles, see list of buildings using as a bonus a region manufactured trade good, New MP Screen options to see and restrict nations by difficulty, fix some war with ally-of-enemy confusion, better graphics (like IR), etc., etc. - generally more realistic "universal" mechanics).

I personally think that « special focus » and unique mechanics tied to unique factions are a good thing and an important part of the game. It makes the factions feel more distinct and unique. If all factions were equals and had the same opportunities, the game would feel quite empty and the replayability would be seriously altered.
Flavor and diversity in gameplay mechanics are exactly what I (and some other players) are waiting for concerning the game, so I think that using DLCs to take us to different periods is a good thing !

Pocus,

Given that a game is 500 turns, and I have spent the last three weeks to get to turn 250 ...

(1) Will the update + DLC be save game compatible?

(2) If I want to buy the DLC, but complete my current game using v1.10, will I be able to do so on Steam?

Thank you.

(1) Yes it should be, as of now older saves work without issue
(2) you should, some DLC features won't be there because initialized at game start (impediments), RGD will appear over time. Special features should also apply if correct during the time frame, for example some missions.

I just tested with a rather old 1.5 save, it works without issue
