For prototype equipment or captured equipment you see a number above the equipment when you look at it in the store. That's how many actual steps or units of that type you have - e.g., if it says "20", you have enough for 1 15-strength unit and 5 replacements, or 1 10-strength unit with 10 replacements. Generally that means you want ~15-20 equipment per unit you actually deploy so you don't run out, since damaged units still consume the same number of core slots as the undamaged unit.

Sometimes (like with Industry Connections) you can get more prototypes over time; sometimes (like with Karl Gerat and the Goliath tanks) the game only ever gives you a fixed number on a given mission.

Thank you for your reply. But I don't understand... lol

I have a Panzer IVE in the store, with number 6 above, and I can't buy it.

I can't replace equipment for my Flammpanzer II, so it stays at 7 of strength. And I can replace my other panzers.

For any equipment labelled prototype, you only have access to a particular number of units / strength of that prototype at a time -

I'm not sure if the game will let you buy units below full strength - so it might just be the game isn't letting you buy it because you don't have the 10 you need to form a full new unit.

You might also be trying to use it as an upgrade for a unit whose current strength is above 6 - if you're trying to upgrade a 10-strength unit to Panzer IVE, you need 10 Panzer IVEs.

That's why you have to be careful with Prototype equipment and conserve it: The early Panzer IVE and Flammpanzers are AWESOME, but you have to be careful with them since you only have this limited number of them.

OK thanks !!!
I just tested it, and I understood after a long time...
If I have 20 above the engine in the shop, I can buy 2 of it... but if I do it, it will be impossible to repair them during the battle... buy one it's better to keep 10 repair points !!!
THANK YOU !!!

It will be some Russian Campain ?

Why can't I buy new units even though I have enough prestige points if I have exactly the number of units in the pool that I can deploy in the next scenario? Or what am I doing wrong?

In Panzer Corps 1, if I had enough prestige, I could buy as many new units as I wanted.

If I understand you correctly, you have to move some units to the reserve first. I don't like that solution much either, but you can do it when you click on a unit in the list and then press one of the buttons on the right of the list. (should be the top one)

Thank you very much, now I understand that! I have to put an unnecessary unit in the reserve to make room to buy new units.
As I said, in Panzer Corps 1 we could buy as much as we had prestige.

Yeah, I liked that much more, I don't really understand what purpose the reserve serves.

In general, one seems to lack core slots more than you lack prestige. So it's a way to swap out units on specific scenarios, without losing the experience the units have. I haven't utilized it much myself but I think that is the basic point of the function.

Yeah, but why do we need a reserve for that? In PC1 you had core slots as well and all your units available. You could just place units until you had no more core slots available on the map. Why this extra step with reserves?

Because the core slots are a much more scarse resource than they were in PC1. I think the reserve is a function to clarify which units you will put into action and which units you will not in the specific scenario.

The PzC1 approach, with which you fill the slots as you place the units, wouldn't be as convenient with the new system. There are many more core slots now, and different units have different core values, and it's much harder to keep in your head all at once. So planning everything before you plop the units onto the map is the better way, and you need something to temporarily remove units from your core (a reserve of sorts, perhaps?) for that to function.

I'd still like to be able to upgrade units that are in reserve.
