Panzer Corps 2 on GNU+Linux

Post by uneducated »

I wonder whether it might be possible to have Panzer Corps to support on GNU+Linux. There is a thread about Steam Proton for this here:

Early beta [Aug] I tried PzC and PzC2[Beta] on the SteamPlay Beta.
PzC worked, PzC2 didn't.
After the [Steam] Beta was over, It wouldn't let me play or load PzC because it hadn't been approved.

The problem with PzC2 is DirectX11. SteamPlay didn't load it, and I couldn't get Steam support to help.
Note: The Mac issue in also DirectX11 and Apple's handling of graphics.

The Linux issue with DirectX11 may be solved, but I was emulating Linux on my Mac and didn't take the time to figure it out.

The next revision of Crossover [20] is supposed to solve DirectX11 on the Mac but we will see.
Crossover 19 should have fixed the 32 bit issue for Catalina, but I haven't upgraded my computers yet, am waiting for the DirectX11 solution to test things out.

For both Linux and MacOs the video card issue still holds, if you don't know what that is look a little harder in these forums, it is a problem for older and lower end Windows machines trying to play PzC2.

If you are interested in a Linux solution get on the Linux forums and find out about DirectX11 support.
There comes a time on every project when it is time to shoot the engineer and ship the damn thing.
