My Principate Roman army does not really do the 3rd Century AD, so I am looking at extending it. I am fine with what I require for everything but the seperately deployed Legio Lanciarii. I know that there has been much discussion (?) on how to depict 3rd Century Legio over the years. What is the current thinking on how to depict these (the old Middle Imperial Roman Bd(F) for those who still think DBM)? I would rather get it right as I am starting from scratch. My start point would have been Armies and Enemies of Imperial Rome but I know that may well have been superceeded.
If there has already been a thread on this, please point me at it if that saves digging over old ground.
Thanks in advance.
Current thinking on depicting Late Principate Lanciarii?

The options in the army list provide for the various possibilities. both armored and unarmored. So if armored, they ought not to look very different from legionnaires, and if unarmored, (and A&A miniatures makes some figures for this) they're bare headed guys tunics with swords and legionary shields. I think there's a couple of different interpretations in various Ospreys--the one on Roman battle tactics 109BC-AD313 shows unarmored men in helmets with oval shields skirmishing with javelins against cataphracts.

I run them as armored so i use ordinary auxilia (corvus belli for the lot of them) but ive selected poses with swords and added some lancea. They look much more agressive then the "real" auxilia. Further, to define them as legionaries, ive painted them as the reast of my legionaries, clothes, shield etc. Got no pics atm as they are not really finished yet.
Stewe got it, Its Corvus Belli 15mm minis. Excellent miniatures, vivid, but with some flash on some.
