Ghurids
Hey all,
I'm not sure whether this belongs in 'Army Design' or 'Modelling' but it's here, so there!
Ok, I have a Ghurid army filled with defensive spearmen (at least that's what I THINK I would rate them in FoG).
I'm wondering what army they could be used for in FoG as the Ghurids don't exist (yet?).

Re: Ghurids
They will be in "Empires of the Dragon".DaiSho wrote:the Ghurids don't exist (yet?).
Why not use them as Ghurids. The main elements of the Ghurid army will be:
Ghilman: Cavalry, Armoured, Superior, Drilled, Bow, Swordsmen - up to 12
Turkish tribesmen: Average Undrilled Bow, Swordsmen LH Unprotected or Cavalry Unprotected or Protected - lots
Karwah spearmen: HF Protected, Undrilled, Average, Defensive Spearmen - lots and lots
If you stick to that, who is to argue?
Re: Ghurids
Thanks Richard, I didn't know if they were going to be an issue or not. I'm not particularly anxious to have another army before 'Empires of teh Dragon' comes out so can wait, but didn't read the list properly to know that Ghrids were going to be in the list.rbodleyscott wrote:They will be in "Empires of the Dragon".DaiSho wrote:the Ghurids don't exist (yet?).

At the moment I'm having lots of fun executing Generals with my Huscarls, so by the time Empire of the Dragon comes out I'll dust off the Ghurids and lets go
Sounds like a good list (and what I would have expected too).
Incidentally, you didn't mention 'lots and lots' of bowmen.

Are there ANY? It 'used' to be (in another rule system that will 1 - remain nameless; and 2- aren't necessarily accurate) 1/3 bowmen!nikgaukroger wrote:Because there aren'tDaiSho wrote:

Alas I could find no mention of them in the relevant sources - and will be arguing for their removal from the DBMM version of the Ghurid list.
We do, however, allow a single BG of archers as a maybe - plus one of slingers as they are attested

You can do as you please with the DBMM list. I'll never see them againnikgaukroger wrote:Alas I could find no mention of them in the relevant sources - and will be arguing for their removal from the DBMM version of the Ghurid list.
I must admit to having absolutely no research on the Ghurids apart from 'that looks like an interesting list', so I cannot speak with ANY authority what-so-ever. The only thing I DID read was about their armour being considered very good. I think I read that when doing some research on the Tibetans. That doesn't necessarily mean anything about their own troops though.
No supporting archers for the defensive spear?nikgaukroger wrote: We do, however, allow a single BG of archers as a maybe - plus one of slingers as they are attested

Nope - mind you as they're only 1 point cheaper than the spearmen I'd take spearmen bases instead of them anyway

I may agree, but I thought the offensive ability of shooting at troops might make them charge defensive spear thus making them every bit as good as offensive spear. Good tactic IMHO.nikgaukroger wrote:DaiSho wrote:

Well if there were any supporting archers they'd be LF ones like other Moslem armies and they don't shoot except in support in the Impact Phase.
