LI Evades

Post by Triarii »

What is the mechanism for LI evades and follow ups particularly HI and has it changed.
I ask as I have had 8 LI caught, on evading, by the charging unit in one game.
7 of these are by HI charging LI one was by LI charging LI.
I know because after the first two in an early turn I have been keeping a note initially because I thought I was doing something silly.

The first caught evade was an from an uphill square into rough ground directly behind were they were caught by the following HI. The second was from an uphill square into open ground were they were caught - both were one square evades.
Most of the rest have been just one or two square evades in no cases has there been any obstructing units behind and nor has there been limit on the AP. The last however, was a three square evade in open ground with no other unit enemy or friendly within three squares and no terrain other than open anywhere near.
It is making me very leery of using skirmishers.
I am wondering is this just grossly unlucky or is it common.

In the mirror game my HI have caught exactly zero skirmishers on evade only catches are where there was another unit available to charge so my thinking is unfortunate.

It is pretty much just unlucky. Both evaders and chargers have a 25% chance of moving an extra square, and a 25% chance of moving one less square than usual.

Thank you Richard.
So basically a 38% chance of getting caught in any terrain in a straight forward evade LI from HI - that is good to know. Given the number of evades in the game that is probably about right and I would be more correct to say it was good fortune for my opponent bucking the probabilities in not being caught at all.

Sorry to take so long to comment again on this thread.

It is more like 6%, assuming that the HI start in an adjacent square.

The HI have a normal orthogonal move of 2 squares and the LF have a normal move of 3 squares.

The HI have to not just be in an adjacent square at the end of their pursuit, but have enough move left to theoretically charge into the square the LI are in at the end of their evade.

So essentially it only happens if the LI throw down, and the HI throw up: So 25% of 25%, which is approx 6%.

So he wasn't lucky, you were grossly unlucky.
