Scrolling speed / too sensitive game reaction

Post by anchopal »

Hi dear Slitherine team,
as former Panzer Corps player have still some problems with scrolling the map in Panzer Corps II. Using a 'scroll speed' rate of 50 and higher makes it difficullt just to move the screen a little bit up / down or right / left. I feel the game reacts here too sensitive with the result that the display 'stops' half outside of the scenario map. Using a 'scroll speed' lower than 50 makes navigation on the maps very slow. Is there any possibility to limit the edge scroll as far as the scenario map frontieres are reached? I already looked at the video options under 'window mode' but did not recognize any difference by selecting the available possibilities.
Thank you in advance, anchopal

Hi there,
I have the same situation as Anchopal described; especially when using the next unit button, This is really destroying the pleasure of playing this game. i'm surprised that this issue was not discovered during the beta testing phase. Hope that a simple solution cold be find to correct this deficiency.
Cheers

Hi zakblood,
it' no bug just as described scrolling speed issue. Consequently there is no log file or any other system documentation. Using the edge scroll function (box checked) and high scroll speed (>50) leads to the fact the display stops too late, that is it is very difficult just to scroll a little bit right / left or up / down. I tried to use a very slow scroll speed (<15) then small scrolls do work. However, logically it takes some time until the map scrolls when I move the mouse to the right or left border. Within the second Poland scenario the game experience was OK. However, in the first Norway scenario I felt that the game was very slow, e.g. unit movements are delayed, opening separate windows takes long etc. I don't now whether this relies also to the scrolling issues or whether it is a separate game performance issue. I would be helpful getting some hints how to speed up the game play by using corressponding game settings. If there is special further input necessary, please let me know.

PS I sent the DxDiag file to the the slitherine support email-address.

So just to confirm, you quickly move the cursor to screen edge and back, but the map scrolls much longer than needed, and consequently takes you too far? This does sound like you are having performance problems with the game in general. Will the game scroll any better if you switch the map to strategic mode (a button above the minimap)?

Yes, you described exactly the problem. The game scrolls much better if I switch to the 2d strategic map.

You haven't posted what video card you have in your machine, which will be a major part of performance.

Cheers

Assuming you have all the graphical options turned down to their minimum then it sounds like the issue is that your machine is only able to run the game too slowly for your preference. You could try running it at a lower screen resolution, as that should help.

At a wild guess I'd say your integrated graphics chip does not have the power or the memory. Its designed for office software.

The link zakblood gave you was to a step by step of how to get a dx diagnostic. Its nothing to do with logs or bugs. This will give us a lot of technical information about your computer and might help us better diagnose the problem. Without that we are, as he pointed out, guessing.

So please provide your dx diag.

Thanks.
