I just finished my first overseas war against Carthage.
I have to admit that I was struggling with supply.
I play Alea Acta Est aka AJE and understand supply is pretty much similar to that game from region to unit.
However, in terms of AJE ... for my army I could build supply carts for going on campaign or a seige, or for my navy, I could build transports.
I am little confused as to how my navy and army are to manage supply when campaigning overseas?

overland supply in Empires is fairly straightforward, as long as you have control over at least one neighbouring region, food will be turned to supply and sent to you.
if you have landed say in N Africa, supply can come from a fleet off shore, you'll need to do some rotating but its simpler than the AJE process of sending supply carts out/back to your fleet
if you hold a single region in N Africa its still very difficult as that region is probably pillaged and has low loyalty (so low food production), you probably still need the offshore fleet and may need to think about army size

Supply is food. You want to invade a region that has no walls and a lot of food in storage. That way, your army will be in supply immediately. Shift all of the captured population to producing more food. You would need a huge number of ships in groups to supply an army. Always click on the regions before you declare war and do a survey of where the food is. Your army needs to march from one food storage region to the next. Good luck!

Unless you are playing Rome, you need to succeed to take a high food region with the initial invasion, or have two fleets supporting the invasion. The first fleet moves together with the invasion force (you need about one ship (no matter what sort of ship) to support each invading unit (you should leave medium and heavy cavalry plus elephants behind, do not take those on the invading force until you have a secure supply situation). Then, rotate the fleets so that a fresh fleet arrives on the coast at the end of each turn, and the depleted fleet moves back to a friendly port to refill. Supplies are checked at the start of the turn, so the depleted fleet can safely be rotated back to the coast as it will have stocked up by the time it is to move and so on.
With Rome it is easy. You need one supporting fleet to supply the first turn after the invasion, and then just start building Roman camps as you go. That is free 20 supplies generated each turn. What is better, if you invade a region which is part of a small province (say for example Bycanzene in North Africa) and form that province, the supply from the Roman camps are pooled together. Just pillage everything, as it makes enemy counterattacks a logistic nightmare, while you draw the supply from the camps and live in plenty luxury
