PG2 player

Post by Sjoa18 »

As a loooong time PG2 player (I actually remember buying the game off the shelf in a local Best Buy...I think it was 1997), I was super excited to try PC2 especially since PC1 didn't have the "overrun" capability. I purchased the FM edition, and so far so good! Some questions/observations....

1) Is Germany the only country with playable campaigns? I can't seem to find any other campaigns other than Wehrmacht ones. (The 5 provided
are good cross section but loved how PG2 started in Spain for their blitz campaign.)
2) Like the heroes and general traits - but still getting used to them. Is there a list of heroes someplace?
3) I'm playing timed scenarios - and the turns allowed seems to be fixed at 20. Is there any incentive for finishing early? PG2 I believe had Brilliant Victory, Victory, and Tactical Victory, and then Loss based on how many turns it took to win. Is there any incentive on finishing a scenario as quick as possible?
4) PG2 had a game editor (I believe it was user created) where you can go in and adjust deployable hexes, unit strength etc on a turn by turn basis. It was quite powerful and allowed you to modify scenarios and even campaigns. Certainly there's a lot of fun to be had before this is really needed...and I guess me real question is, are there user mods that can be anticipated like PG2?
5) Finally thank you to the devs - love how PG2 the game feels, but one difference is that I love how troops can move before and after embarking! Saved me a ton of damage in norway south!!

Always good to hear from a series veteran.

For the moment, yes only Wehrmacht campaign are in Panzer Corps 2. As for Spain... well as I recall, Panzer General 2 only had a single scenario for Spain. That's not really all that impressive so I'm not entirely disappointed that Panzer Corps 2 doesn't also only have a lone Spanish scenario. It was a big war that lasted 3 years. Maybe we'll see it here, in a better state than one lonesome, tiny scenario? Time will tell.

I'll post a (long) list of heroes next post, but I'm not sure it's complete there might actually be more.

The four degrees of victory have been trimmed for simplicity. Finishing early only carries some prestige bonuses I believe. The system is better this way... but I do miss some interesting potential that was lost with degrees of victory. Might have to bring it back in a better form. The old system of deliberately losing to explore alternate paths is just too problematic over current system of choosing after victory.

PzC2 comes with editor, but there is no custom content on launch... because custom content takes time to make. Hopefully it will come as players get their hands on it, but for now everyone is mostly playing, not working on making custom stuff it seems. :)

This video touches on editor introductions.

Thank you for your post, hope you continue to enjoy the game as it grows and improves in its post launch life cycle too.

The following list is taken from what I'm supplied with in order to produce the icons. I can't guarantee this is complete and bare in mind these are preliminary names and descriptions and so cannot be assumed to be set in stone. The icons for these traits are being added and I would appreciate feedback on them. Got to admit I found it difficult for some of the more abstract concepts, especially given the size, treatment and need to work at 1k and 4k.

We also need you to be aware of what combination of traits you use at any given time and report any .. anomalies, superpowers, strange lights .. we want to make sure theres no serious game changers. Or even not so serious game changers.

It would also be great if you could note any combinations you particularly like and why.

Cheers,

Pat

Thanks Kerensky for the quick response...yes, while there was some user campaigns that had a few more from Spain, I think there was just the Madrid scenario in the original Pg2 blitz campaign. But I liked it because of the early materiel that you were restricted to.

Anyway - thanks again for the response and the heroes list.

Cheers,
Bill
