GPU running at 99%

Post by Gunja »

As discussed in this threat, I - as a lot of other peoples - have the problem of a high gpu usage despise setting the maximal fps to 40. You find dxdiag in the attachment-

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 18363) (18362.19h1_release.190318-1202)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM

User DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)

Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 630
Display Memory: 8261 MB
Dedicated Memory: 128 MB
Shared Memory: 8133 MB
Current Mode: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (60Hz)
Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor
Monitor Model: unknown
Monitor Id: CMN1738
Native Mode: 1920 x 1080(p) (60.008Hz)
Driver Date/Size: 26.09.2017 out of date

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
Display Memory: 14185 MB
Dedicated Memory: 6052 MB
Shared Memory: 8133 MB
Driver Date/Size: 24.02.2020

(Realtek High Definition Audio(SST))
Date and Size: 30.10.2018 again out of date

Drive: C:
Free Space: 4.8 GB getting low on space, and as the C drive is used for temp space and also for Page File etc, this isn't enough for windows, let alone gaming

as this is a upgrade from a previous version of windows, and i'd guess a older version and not just the 5 or 6 versions of windows 10, sometimes it's better imo to do a format, but all drives back to C, so have a larger space, and do a fresh wipe and install, and have no partitions.

have as little running with the game in background as possible and have at least 20GB free space at all times for the C drive, so temp and page file work as designed.

for now update all drivers and reboot, then boot into windows and turn off as many items auto loading, as tbh you only need your AV at startup and steam if you wish for it to load every boot, as anything can be loaded manually when needed, not every time etc

and retry, if it still runs high screenshot the processors running and also one for CPU and memory use and GPU if you would, thanks and sorry for your issues

Thank you for your answer, I followed your suggestions, making space on C, and also installed a new intel driver even if I can't fully understand why that should be important, I mean it's the gtx 1060 that is running hot. Anyway - I couldn't find a better driver for the audio. Regarding Windows I do not fully understand what you mean - in any case it is not an upgrade from an older version of windows (7, 8.1 or whatever) just the feature and quality updates. To change any autoloading settings I actually don't feel competent enough.
It seems, that it almost didn't help, in the few minutes I tested it, the gpu was still under very heavy load, and this where I would really ask the developpers to react. One day after release there is player after player reporting this issue, for me this game has probably a higher gpu usage than Wolfenstein II and similar games. This can't be right.

for me i lowered the game to the lowest settings, then also ran the game in windowed mode, it still runs fullscreen as that's how windows scales the screen, but then the game ran at 79% of the GPU and not 100% of it, so until the developer can look and alter it, it's a working fix for now until another patch or fix etc and is the best i can offer, more space for you would help tbh, but by how much is just a guess

Thank you. Following your suggestion I have 65 GB free space on C, which should be more than enough, I guess. I will try windowed mode and see, if it helps because it seems that the possible solutions / fixes do not work for all. To be honest my main issue is the kind of lukewarm response from the developers: there are a couple of threads about this without any reaction and on the main forum it was pretty much suggested that this is an isolated issue, that will take time and that complaints are somehow excessive. If someone of the developers told us, that this is a top priority for them and they fix this first, I would be far less irritated about this.
