I have bought out my ally. Now what?

Post by stuart3 »

I have purchased both remaining regions from my ally Massalia. I was surprised that they sold me their entire remaining lands, but I guess that's financial politics. However Massalia has not been removed from the game. Their armies and fleets are still in existence and still allied to me. Presumably they are being paid using the money I paid for the provinces and are eating from my food stocks. Since they are all that remains of Massalia, I would like to make an offer to absorb them, (to effectively hire them as mercenaries by another name) but I no longer have an option to do that although I can still break the alliance, reduce it to a cooperation, or ask them to become my (landless) client state with a very low chance of acceptance.

I guess the issue here is being able to ask all regions down to the last, with the region clause. It should only be available through absorption.

I am now picturing a bunch of people in boats sitting in the middle of the ocean, with their king looking glumly at the land that was theirs and saying 'well, at least we got a bunch of money for it'.

I think that it is the nation's main capital that players shouldn't be able to ask for, not just whichever region the player decides to leave to last because it is the least desirable.

I also think that nations are disproportionally more disposed to cash in on their best land than to accept a financial inducement to be absorbed, especially when the two amount almost to the same thing.

Yes, but look at the boat... hot tubs, gold-plated oars, walks through aromatic gardens with trees, oh and the food and wine!
