Installing mods

Post by zasgard »

Pardon my newbness here, but how do I install some of the these mods/campaigns people have made? I JUST got the game last night (maybe it's on the front intro screen when I fire the game up...which wouldn't shock me :D )

Welcome, your newbness. And trust me, it's not on the front intro screen.

Before I begin, please know: Before you can play any custom stuff, you must own at least one DLC.

Custom campaigns here:

Custom standalone scenarios* here:

Mods here:

*By this, I mean standalone scenarios. If you look in our Scenario Design forum, you will see threads for Custom Campaigns, Custom Single-Player Scenarios, and Custom Multi-Player Scenarios. Mods are sprinkled about in unstickied threads. Campaigns have their own interior Scenarios folder, so don't get confused; if you are downloading a campaign, the entire folder goes into C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\My Games\Order of Battle - WW2\Campaigns. If you are downloading a single standalone scenario, it goes into C:\Users\[your name]\Documents\My Games\Order of Battle - WW2\Scenarios.

Note: Right now, I am editing the scenarios of a certain campaign. That's why my Scenarios folder looks rather orderly, with numbered files. Ordinarily, it will not look like that.

Another note: Many people use the term "mods" to mean all custom designed stuff. Here, custom scenarios and custom campaigns use the vanilla version of the game. Mods, on the other hand, employ files that have been altered by custom designers to look and function differently. This is sanctioned by OOB's owners as long as you don't try to hijack the game and/or sell your version for a profit. See here; I have two mods installed in addition to vanilla OOB:

I will stop talking now because I am verging on TMI. :)

There may be some other things that you should know that you may already know but need to know in the event you do not know .... For example, at the end of Campaign you can save the Corps you have been playing with doing this may or may not make it available the next time you play a DLC - it depends on which content it is and which one you played wherein you saved the corps - the point is though ... that you do need to be able to save your corps - first of all you should imo save often especially on the last turn of a scenario because after that it goes to the campaign map and you then should save it again BEFORE you choose ANY Specialization upgrades this way if you "waste" you specialization choices you can load the game at the campaign map BEFORE you spent the specialization points which you cannot undo ... anyway at the very last scenario of a campaign when you click "continue" to continue the turn and complete the last scenario you are able to ... when it shows the campaign map to analyze your corps BUT IN ADDITION you are able to save your corps. This thread hear should explain it ... viewtopic.php?t=88786
