Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version with Bronze Age scenarios and icons out April 21 2023
Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
Hi Kelte - sorry about that. Did you save a game after you created the folder? Also, which version of Windows are you using?
Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
Hi Nijis, yes I've created the folder and it doesn't work either
I use Windows 10 so it should work well.
Thx for your help

Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
You may have already seen this in the thread, but a couple players had the same problem...
(From StandardNerd): "The way I solved the saving crash was by just manually creating the file path - I went to my documents, created a folder named SavedGames, then created a folder named Fog_Campaigns inside there, then created a folder named Player0 inside there."
Apologies if you'd already created that full path, including Player0.
Some players found it made a difference if you used WinRar rather than another archiver, and if you installed it some place other than the desktop.

Great to hear! Let me know how your campaign goes, if you get a chance.
Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
Hi, I'm getting back into FOG2 after several months away...I've always been meaning to try out this campaign tool, but can't find a list of features anywhere that describes what it does--is such a list available?
Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
Hi 76mm - there's an in-game help function, which covers most of the basic concepts, and an AAR here.
viewtopic.php?f=493&t=96634
There are a fair amount of features now so it would be difficult to list them. It's basically a light strategic game that can be played singleplayer and multiplayer with relatively simple economics, internal politics, and diplomacy that's centered around FoG battles. The main gimmick is that you choose your own balancing - the harder the FoG difficulty of your battles, the bigger the strategic impact.
Hope that helps!

When i try to install it fails me. The program tries to connect to the internet and fails. Is this normal?
Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
Hi Toska - sorry about that. I haven't heard about that issue before. Just to verify - you're using version 0.502? And does it then crash? If so, is there an error message?

Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
Hi,
I've just downloaded this awesome looking game yesterday and have been trying it out , looks really interesting with some great ideas but I have come across a couple of really weird issues. They are so weird I'm not sure I'm imagining it...
I started a game as Lydia in the earliest period , took a couple of turns , no issues. Then I invaded a neighbouring territory. It gave me the battle parameters to set up in FoG 2 and had the table where you can enter the scores for your battle. So.. I went in to FoG 2 , leaving TofC in the background and played the battle out. Returned to TofC to enter the results but for some reason the game seemed to have updated the screen so that the results of the battle were already generated and I could no longer enter the scores myself...
Had a similar problem when I tried to play Mercia in a later campaign , but this time after I came back to the TofC screen after playing a battle in FoG 2 the game was expecting me to fill in the scores for all of the battles in that round!
The game seems to be running itself in the background whilst I'm away! Any ideas what's going on? or am I going mad....
thanks,
Dave.

Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
Ok , I may have found out what the issue is...
I had not minimised the TofC window so it was sitting underneath the FoG 2 window. It seems that the mouse was acting on the TofC window at the same time as I was using it on the FoG 2 window!
Not sure that's normal
Can anything be done about it? It's all ok if I remember to minimise the TofC window first
Consequently I am now happily playing as the Athenians in the 500BC campaign. A very succesful raid in to Macedonia in turn one has lead to Macedon becoming my ally and a pro Athenian faction appearing in Thrace
Unfortunately those evil Spartans struck at my capital whilst I was away... Game on!
thanks again for the game.
Dave.

Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
Glad you're enjoying the game!
Unfortunately yes, I didn't do the settings so that they won't read a click if the game is running in the background. I can try to figure out how to do that. I usually save before battles, quit, and reload (it should just take a couple of seconds, as there are no graphics to load) but that might not work as smoothly as minimizing.

Hi there,
I wanted to check this out.
I downloaded it win WinRaR.
I told Norton to trust setup.exe, it is trying to connect the internet and complete its installation, but running into problems. See error log below.
I am located in Taiwan. I tried VPNing to the USA thinking that it might no like my ISP. No luck.
Another possible problem is I have seen problems with applications due to the International Data Line.
Please help. THANKS!
I am running the Steam version of FOG2. Although the programs directory (Steam directory) and user data directory have been moved, this has been done with Microsoft Junctions and should be totally transparent to any applications. (done to keep my system partition clean of game installs and data)

Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
Hi Markshot -
1) I think the most common problem is when players try to install directly from the .RAR file. You should fully extract the game, ideally to a location other than the desktop, so you see the folder before trying to install. (It looks like you did this, though.)
2) Win32NT means 32-bit? That might be the problem. Sorry about that, if that's the case.
3) You may have some luck with the 0.5 version that's also on the site. That does not allow you to change windowed status and resolution, however.

Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
1) Yes, I did #1.
2) I am running US WIN10 Prox64 Retail on reasonably current hardware. (Note: It is a digital credential derived from being a WIN7 owner.) I am one WIN10 Build back. (My ISP CHT in Taiwan; occasionally marked by list managers as a spammer ISP.) Yes, sadly I do live in one of the world's top scam centers. So, there is always that, and the infamous International Date Line which have tripped up far bigger programs like Quicken which cannot update portfolio prices without running under a special date context shell.
3) I thought of that and did try that.
---
Nijis,
I did want to try your tool. But I know you offer it out of kindness. You have no obligation to support it or debug problems. I appreciate the time you invested. Thank you very much.
PS: If you are willing to invest more time, I will do my best to test and provide diagnostics. Your call.

Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
Thanks! But I'm actually happy to spend a bit of time to try to figure out what's wrong, as I've encountered at least one other instance of this problem. I don't think I need new diagnostic info just yet. I should search the error log you gave me and then go back through the various threads and see if anyone was able to solve this. I'll let you know if I have any other suggestions.
Re: Tides of Conquest campaign tool - new version out Feb 16 2020
Still looking into this, but I found this relevant thread...
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/116 ... cted-range
The comment suggests the problem is a "user profile corruption."
The answer suggested is to "try this"
rundll32 %windir%\system32\dfshim.dll CleanOnlineAppCache
I do not know what "try this" means. I did find two versions of rundll32 (in Windows/System32 and Windows/SysWOW64) but clicking on them seemed to do nothing.
I typed rundll32 %windir%\system32\dfshim.dll CleanOnlineAppCache into the run line and it did not seem to do any damage. You might try that and see if it helps.
