No peace treaty

What happens if there is never a peace treaty? The AI will eventually agree to something but what if there is a human on the other side who won't.
Is there a timeout where an occupied region will switch sides eventually?

There is no necessity to agree to peace, so it could go on for all the remainder of the game. The only option to you at this point is to completely annihilate the enemy  Once the enemy ceases to exist then the regions become yours

I believe there is a time out for regions conquered. if you look at the region in question it has a time to expire underneath it.

Now I looked at one game and it said 1 turn, so this is how I know it's there. However, if I open the next turn and it is still there then the time out appears to be artificial in that case.

Need Pocus to answer this one definitively.
