Assyrian winged lion
I have seen statuettes of these and thought one would make a good camp for my 15mm army'
Anyone know who makes such a thing?

Other than that I'd try a plastic farm/zoo animals set. Theres usually a goose in there you can ground and a decent lion with a but of flash cutting.

The Assyrians used a winged bull with a bearded human head as a "door ward", not a lion.
I've seen a wide varity of "tourist trinkets" depicting Egyptian deities, but never a miniature figure of an Assyrian winged bull. Trying to make one in miniature would be a daunting task, especially getting all FIVE legs correct. The typical "wrap around" corner design depicts all four legs from either the front or from the side, resulting in the statue actually having an extra leg if you move your viewpoint and count them. Apparently, they were used in pairs, one placed on either side of a doorway, so you'd need to make a mirrored pair to be historically "correct".

A lot of museaums have these sorts of figures, but they tend to be pricy.honvedseg wrote:The Assyrians used a winged bull with a bearded human head as a "door ward", not a lion.

A few years back there was a fad for Egyptian, Assyrian etc items in fish tanks. Some pet shops may still have them, and the odd one crops up in charity/thrift/junk shops.

I have two stands of bulls in my 15mm Assyrian HOTT army representing Gods, one with wings, one without.

The Bulls are from the Spanish wine Sangre de Torro that have the plastic figure attached to the neck of the bottle. A nice wine and a wargaming accessory all in one!!
The wings are off some eagle figure. The figures are 28mm so as to be larger than life.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. Bulls indeed, but lions too (albeit human - headed ones).

Joins the chorus ... "I bought a couple of these" ..
The trader was at Partizan last weekend, but I too cannot remember the name. They had the winged bull statues in both 15mm and 25mm scale, as well as some vaguely Lovecraftian Elder God types.
None of the trader links on the Partizan site show anything like that, so the best I can suggest is Stronghold Miniatures, whose website is so epically disfunctional that it might just be hiding what you seek.

Otherwise, maybe a query to the Newark Irregulars will jog somebody's memory.
