Do I need a Cooperation Treaty to trade?
My first game, playing Athens (I know!) and I was looking for a source of pottery for a bonus on my first turn. My ally the Aeolians have it and are in trade range. Am I not getting it because they are trading it with someone else or do I need the Cooperation Treaty in addition to the Alliance Treaty?
Re: Do I need a Cooperation Treaty to trade?
Don't go for a cooperation treaty. It'll blow up your alliance treaty. I learned that the hard way and lost an army to lack of supply in allied lands.
...
Well that and my opponent's navy caught and ate them.

You don't need a cooperation treaty to trade, and each source of a trade good has infinite supply, so you aren't in competition for it. It just often takes the game at least one turn to get the trade route figured out. Supply may also be disrupted by sieges or blockades.

Thanks for the replies. So, what kind of treaty clauses do you actually need to have trade routes set up if any?
Re: Do I need a Cooperation Treaty to trade?
The only diplomatic status that prevents trade with another faction's regions is a state of war. Otherwise, your regions can trade freely.

Re: Do I need a Cooperation Treaty to trade?
I must be missing something here: Athens 1st turn of campaign. The trade display tells me I'm missing pottery for a bonus, that pottery is available 3 spaces away and that my trade range is 5 spaces (I'm doing this from memory). The province pottery is located in is on the coast with a port and I don't see any evidence of a blockade. I'm not blockaded either. I go to the next turn and the situation is the same. I am confuse.
Re: Do I need a Cooperation Treaty to trade?
I occasionally see that sort of thing too, but there is no mechanic that explains it to my knowledge. The game will eventually figure out that it should make the trade. Personally, I suspect that it's because of a bug somewhere in the trade system.
Re: Do I need a Cooperation Treaty to trade?
To get a bonus the relevant resource must be in the same or in an adjacent region. Your relationship to that region does not matter.
Trade comes into play if you 'need' a resource. If that is in trade range you pay the normal proce. If not, triple (IIRC).

Re: Do I need a Cooperation Treaty to trade?
Oh right, sorry, I missed that this was about a bonus resource. If it's only a bonus rather than a Need it doesn't get automatically imported. If another structure imports that resource because it Needs it, that will satisfy the requirement for the bonus in all adjacent regions, as will producing the resource directly. That's all working as intended.

IIRC that is not correct. If a resource is imported via 'needs' it gives its bonus only to its region and not the neighbours.Soar wrote: ↑Sun Mar 01, 2020 12:16 pm Oh right, sorry, I missed that this was about a bonus resource. Adjacent regions get the bonus only if it is produced in that region.

No, imported resources definitely bonus adjacent regions too.
