Unit colour scheme
Unit colour scheme
Does it still hold that better unit is more colourful than inferior unit? I ask this because the current updates looks introducing very colourful model painting for the regular units, which gives me the feeling that they are elite units, like Lydian irregular. They must be very rich to afford that much dyes and paints which in my opinion quite expensive at that time.
BTW, I feel large patch of green colour for Ptolemaic units looks odd.

Surely they are not more colourful than the existing Thracian spearman and javelinmen units?melm wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 6:00 am Does it still hold that better unit is more colourful than inferior unit? Re: Unit colour scheme
These are units from a mod, not created by our usual artist, Pat Ward. Even so, if the Average pikemen are going to look different from the vanilla ones, they can't have bronze shields, can they? I don't see shields being painted in dull colours.melm wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 6:00 am Does it still hold that better unit is more colourful than inferior unit? I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean the wreath on the Veteran phalangite shield? If so, well it's a wreath, wreaths are green.BTW, I feel large patch of green colour for Ptolemaic units looks odd.

All of the Ptolemaic phalangites have red tunics. Were you referring to one of the other armies?melm wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 8:20 amI mean the shirts most phanlangites wear. Re: Unit colour scheme
Ah sorry. My bad. Paul already spotted this issue and fixed it for the live update. I forgot that his fix was after the beta build was finalised.
Thanks for pointing it out. Please do point out any other anomalies.

Re: Unit colour scheme
Please note that many of the pike phalanx texture allocations are different to the TT mod. Some TT mod textures could not be used due to possible copyright complications, therefore we had to change things around a bit, so please point out anything that looks wrong.

Re: Unit colour scheme
Paul has also shortened the tunic sleeves on the Macedonian phalanx.
Both of these issues arose because we have reassigned some of his units to different nations than they are assigned to in TT mod, because not all of the TT mod units were suitable for copyright reasons.
Note that the shield patterns (apart from the Greek average phalanx and Pyrrhic phalanx) are just Macedonian-style shield patterns, and hence not historically tied to any particular Diadochi kingdom, so we were not making any historical faux pas by switching them round. However, some of the body textures were designed for the eastern Diadochi with Iranian recruits in the phalanx (pantodapoi), so Paul has had to change the body textures to be more Macedonian in style in the above two cases.
We have kept the vanilla textures for Seleucids because they continued to have units called Argyraspidae and Chalcaspidae. The Pontics also had Chalcaspidae.

Re: Unit colour scheme
Should textures for Greek phalangs also be for Greek cyrene?

Re: Unit colour scheme
Good point. No, but the pikes should be Ptolemaic ones as they represent the Ptolemaic garrison. I will fix that.

Re: Unit colour scheme
No, because those are ex-Seleucid cleruchs, following Rome granting large areas of the Anatolian territory of the defeated Seleucid kingdom to Pergamum. So they use the same texture as the Seleucids (i.e. the vanilla textures).
But please point out any other possible anomalies.
Note that Pontics also use the vanilla textures because they are known to have had Chalcaspids, and we are running out of different textures to use.

Re: Unit colour scheme
Thanks.
We don't have specific textures for them. Any Jewish phalanx shield pattern would have to be made up, as we don't even know for certain that they had a pike phalanx.
They were an ex-Seleucid province, so using the vanilla (Seleucid) textures is the best we can do.
