A FoG of Ice and Fire - Fan FoG fantasy supplement

Post by Eusebius »

I've been reading the ASoIaF series and see potential in it as a FoG campaign or
simply a fun couple of Saturdays. So, I created a couple list based on the
Wildlings and Night's Watch from the books. They seemed a good place to start
as they are smaller factions, but more fantasy then most of the others. They
also each have ample characters to be used as Heroes, which I took advantage of.

I think I have a pretty conservative approach to Heroes. They are more like
upgrades you can buy for various units. I wish I could have written more about
each heroes background.

Anyways, I intend to revise these list as the limited audience in this group
gives me critique and advice.

I am new to FoG and ASoIaF, but love both so hopefully I will finish out the
faction list in the next month or so.

I created a "A Song of Ice and Fire" specific folder, on the FoG Fantasy yahoo group...

Winter is coming...

So I've been working with ideas for the factions. One of the larger houses is barely described in the series and some of the smaller factions are quite active militarily. So I decided to organize them between Major/Minor factions not based on

So here is what I've come up with for factions:

Major Factions:

House Stark of The North
Based on the Med. Scots list + Isles
House Tully of The Riverlands
Based on the Cont. HYW English
House Arryn of The Vale of Arryn
Based on the HYW English + Swiss?
House Lannister of The Westerlands (in the west)
Based on the Free Company
House Baratheon/Lannister (King Joffrey) on the Iron Throne (King's Landing)
Based on the Condotta
House Baratheon (King Renly) of The Stormlands
Based on the med. Germans
House Tyrell of The Reach
Based on the Med Burgundian
House Martell of Dorne
Based on the Med Aragonese
House Greyjoy of the Iron Islands
Based on the Vikings/ Med Swedish
House Bolton of the Dreadfort (later Wardens of the North)
Based on the Med. Scots list + Isles
House Baratheon (King Stannis) of Dragonstone
Based on the med. Germans
House Targaryen??? In the east? Before the war of the Usurper? Got no clue... Turkish/ Byzantine mix

Minor Factions:
The Men of the Night’s Watch - Done - Somewhat barbarion
Wildlings - Done - Closest to Carthage, but with Giants :)

They were very good novels, good idea to try and get them onto the table.

Your idea regarding hero's is interesting.

Heroes - your scenario and other approaches

Post by Terrement »

I think your approach for the heroes in this series fits well with the feel of the books and the battles. On the other hand, I wonder if there is any feel for other "larger than life" heroes in other armies battles. I'm just feeling my way through this, and don't know how you would code the AI to do this, but I think there are other possibilities to consider. Just so it doesn't get lost here, I'll start a thread if there isn't one already specifically on heroes and champions.
