Combined listing of all FoG2 Army Lists including all DLC and patch changes

Post by Temple »

I did a post like this a couple of years ago, so I thought I'd post a new list. The below listing of Army Lists through Wolves at the Gate and the 1.5.25 update is taken from the Slitherine/Matrix product pages, plus changes as noted in the patch readme text. I have *not* validated it against the latest actual in-game display of armies as I just don't have that much energy  so there might be errors in some of the data ranges, however I think this does cover all the armies in the game. Any redlines or suggestions are welcome.

I was previously asked about labeling the entries versus DLC, but again that is more effort than I want to put in to this , plus of course who isn't going to eventually buy all the DLC? :D I personally use the listing so I don't get into a rut of playing the same armies over and over again, and it does give me a central location to skim through to look for something different. I have a copy of the list with checkboxes to keep track of my games.

Finally, if someone else has already posted a list like this, plus let me know. And if someone wants to use this list as a basis for their own documentation, have at it. I would just appreciate a mention if you post it 8).

A very worthwhile effort.

I keep army statistics in the FOG2 Digital League that I run here . . .

My list also contains armies from the TT and Silk Road mods, but I can use your list to identify armies that have never been used in the FOG2DL. There might be some useful armies that are being missed.

I think the real treasure trove lies in as yet untried ally combinations. Some of these might involve main armies that normally don't get a second look, but might be lifted to greatness by their allies. e.g. Any weird otherwise crap army with Roman allies.

Yes, I am sure that is true. For players who don't know, the FOG2DL asks you to play 9 battles per section each season (except for the Themed Event) so there is a premium on choosing an army versatile enough to cope with different types of terrain. Powerful "one-trick pony" armies can often come unstuck. I have just looked at one army combination with allies for Early Middle Ages that allows you to choose the following maximums, depending on the terrain . . .

Cavalry - 6 + 2 light horse
Heavy foot - 25
Medium foot - 13
Skirmishers - 10
Mob - 2

So you can have a fully fledged cavalry and HF army for open terrain or a primarily cavalry, MF and skirmisher army for very difficult terrain. All bases are covered, I would say.
