What is "rough ground" in real life?

Field of Glory II is a turn-based tactical game set during the Rise of Rome from 280 BC to 25 BC.

What is "rough ground" in real life?

Post by melm »

Thinking of the rough ground about the same elevation with the open ground in Field of Glory II, I am wondering what rough ground in game looks like in real life. Anyone could give any reference or pictures about the rough battlefield?

Terrain with a lot of rocks, a lot of bushes or light forest with heavy undergrowth. The same elevation doesn't necessarily mean that the rough tile is flat, just that it doesn't have a significant and/or consistent height advantage compared to the surrounding tiles.

It doesn't take much to make it significantly hard to keep any kind of formation when moving in terrain. Graphically the rockiness is probably a bit overemphasized in FoG2 tiles but the effect would be pretty much the same.

Yeah - the Mediterranean in particular has a lot of land where rocks, often limestone, make it impossible to plow for crops and also make grazing more difficult.
