Commanders.txt file question

Post by conboy »

Hidee-ho,
If I modify the commanders.txt file to increase a US Land commander's capabilities, will it potentially foul up gameplay somewhere? I edited it to allow REDUSA to receive commanders just fine. Just wondering what changing the attributes might do to other aspects of gameplay outside of the scenario I am working on now -- what about the scenarios from the Artistocrats? Might it affect them somehow?

thanks in advance,
conboy

It shouldn’t cause any issues. It might imbalance them slightly, but i shouldn’t cause any issue as long as you don’t add any new commanders.
Klinger, you're dumber than you look, and THAT boggles the MIND.

To my knowledge, the official DLCs do not utilize the commanders for the enemy AI that much. An exception was the RedStar DLC, many German/Finish commanders there. Meaning that changes with the US commanders might unbalance your gameplay, not the AI's.

But I'm not 100% sure which US commanders are used by the AI exactly. There might be some in the Jap-Pacific DLC, I believe(?).

Adding a new commander won't do you much good, unless you edit a scen and add the respective triggers to award him (to you or the AI).

It would help if you would be more specific what commander you're planning to modify and what traits you want to change.

Don't know why this should cause any troubles. The AI won't (rather: don't know how to) use new "stuff" until explicitly told to do so (via triggers in the scens).

Gabe, Zekedia,
Thanks -- based on your input and my limited understanding of this game, I think I'll go ahead and modify a few of the enlisted commanders and take my chances. It appears to be a low-risk change that will improve the scenario and overall campaign.
