Next update: let us turn the ships in placement phase

Post by DEFCONwon »

Maybe it’s been discussed, but I don’t see why we can’t turn the ships, at least 90 degrees, in the initial placement phase. Small thing, would make a big difference.

Multiple selection / movement of ships in placement phase would be good also.

Physics of entry and exit jump vectors aside, you're coming out of a jump pretty much blind, so I like that you aren't always in optimal position with regard to enemy units.

We usually see the enemy forces’ location and position accordingly, so it isn’t blind. Might as well be able to set up facing how we want. It’s frustrating.

The reason the game prevents you from turning your forces pre-deployment is that it would make it entirely too easy to jump in, showing broadside in the perfect formation, able to just chew up the Cylons.

A part of the game's loop is manoeuvring into a good position. If you take that away, all you have to do is sit broadside on to the Cylons until they come into range. It's already partially what happens when the Cylons jump in off to your right or left.
The aforementioned post is made in accordance with the canon where the Valkyrie-class is a modern battlestar which has no place in the first Cylon War timeline. So say we all.

Fair points.

With rotational customisation of ship placement aside (for me at least), it would still be useful to have multi select for ship placement. Example- setting up a stack of ships in one place and wanting to move said stack to another, rather than individual movement, can move full stack at same time. Not essential but when the command update came through with multi select, I found myself trying to do the same thing in the placement phase a few times, and wishing the function was there also.

You usually jump in showing broadsides. All I want is 90 degrees, well make that 180. Hardly game breaking.
