Any chance the animation of the units be looked at?
Any chance the animation of the units be looked at?
I checked the mew lists of Iberian. The lists look quite genuine. However, I found that the animation of the units is not smooth, which give people sudden gesture change feeling. I think that is because of the connection of different pieces of animation does not end or start from the same gesture. Hopefully it could be looked at. Thanks.

Can you be more specific - which units exactly? Though all use existing models, with new textures, so I would have expected any issues to also affect the unit they are created from. However, there are way to mitigate the problem, which we have discovered through experience while doing the DLCs, so some of the older units' animations would probably benefit from revisiting anyway, if only to make the Wait animation fidget less.melm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 5:11 am I checked the mew lists of Iberian. What caught my eye is the "Celtiberian Warband". That's true that it's not universal problem that, for example, Roman legionary animation is good comparing with the warband.rbodleyscott wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 7:44 amCan you be more specific - which units exactly? I am guessing that the Beta uses the TT Mod animation file for the Celtiberian warband? If I remember correctly, I wanted the sword and shield waving animation for the Celtiberians, so just used the normal warband animation file and renamed it for the Celtiberians. So I am guessing there is a slight mismatch between model and the animation file. I can see a slight jerkiness to the shield movement at it's lowest position. The vanilla Warband model has the same jerkiness, but to a lesser extent.

Well we can't easily "fix" the actual animations, but we can select which ones are used from those that are available, and also alter their relative frequency. I will look and see if I can do anything like that.Paul59 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 2:48 pm I am guessing that the Beta uses the TT Mod animation file for the Celtiberian warband? Also, because of the way the model gets exported, sometimes there is just one rogue frame at the beginning or end of the animation that is causing jerkiness and can be ommitted.
Is it the sword and shield animation that was bothering you melm?

It is but not just sword and shield animation. From waiting changing to fidgeting, then from fidgeting to raising shields and arms, each time you have the jerking feel. So I say the connection between each piece could be checked.rbodleyscott wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 3:06 pm

Sometimes the fleeing horse archers also have serious jerking feel.

Re: Any chance the animation of the units be looked at?
I have looked into this. The reason for it is that the two more active animations in the Wait set are holding their shield at a slightly different angle when at rest than in the passive animation. So the shield changes position suddenly when the animations switch. We cannot fix that because the animations are not individually hand-crafted, they come from a library, and then we pick the ones that work best. That is why there are some vanilla units where the same sort of thing happens.
In this case, we can greatly mitigate the visual effect of the phenomenon by reducing the relative frequency of the active animations.

All right. I used to think that each animation starting and ending gesture could be tuned to the exactly same gesture to fix it. If it couldn't be done, that's all right.

Ghilman have an animation issue as well. When they are in melee their back shields disappear (intended?) except for on at least one of their melee animations the shield flickers into view for what looks like the first frame of the animation cycle.
On a more positive note the underhanded spear animations on the muslim spears look much better than the old underhand animation on triarii and the like. Not sure if its a different animation or if the model has been rigged differently but in any case their melee idle looks great.
