No online?
I have been playing Legion, CoW, Sparta and Troy and was really looking forward to manage my own little army over the internet. Just the thought of having my men in a server located somewhere (in the UK?) and be able to access them and educate them, fight with them and everything else, from wherever I wanted was thrilling. Now, as I understand, It will be an ordinary PC Game distributed on disc (or online) and installed on my computer, meaning that I will have to stay at home and continue my endless nights fighting over the Mediteranian area. I think that is a pity and would really have liked to be able to play it online, from work, from home or elsewhere. No doubt I will buy it anyway but it lost a very interesting dimension.
P.S. For God's sake, do something about the colors on this forum, black on dark grey? it must be a computer nerd to think that would be a good idea! Yes, I managed to get my text "Cyan", much better! (last sentence edited)
(I have edited the text again to black now when I have set my own screen to light grey, look below)

Yes, for med cyan on dark grey is much better than black on dark grey. I don't know if it is my eyes or my computer/screen but that is definitely a fact. And Duncan, I do haver the Slitherine forum type but to call what I have as a background colour more or less white is very odd. My background is dark grey, slightly brighter than black so if you could see it you would understand why black on it is a very bad idea. Cyan on the other hand is for me a bright colour on dark background, possible to read with no problem. But, maybe the screens looks different by different users?
By the way, no opioins about the no online?
(the text has been edited to black, please look below)

I did post a reply a couple of days ago, but it must have failed to upload.
Basically it is indeed cool to be able to play from anywhere you like, but the majority of people still play their games offline. Add to that that most people still like to buy their games in physical boxes and you begin to see why we felt that the movement to a produce which doesn't need a connection makes sense.
On the other hand, I think you are really going to like the new features we have been able to implement...
Cheers
Pip

Black on dark gray vs light cyan on white
torgilsknutsson, if you click on your profile, then select "Slitherine" format from a dropdown box toward the bottom of the options, the background will change to an off-white. You actually need to select it, even though it already says "Slitherine" by default, and save the profile change, for it to work. Of course, if you aren't registered, like every other new user, it's a problem.
Changing the text to cyan on a light background really makes your messages hard to read for the rest of us who have changed the background. Admittedly, it needs fixing, so both the new visitors and the regular members can read it.

Black text on light gray
Until I adjusted it in my profile earlier in the week, I was also getting black text on a dark slate gray background. It was at least readable, unless your monitor was set fairly dark, but not easy.

I see....dead people. But anyway, I certainly hope Slitherine and VPLtd. can sit down and bring Legion Arena, now that it's back to SP, and Legion II to the mac platform.iainmcneil wrote:The default colour scheme is black text on light grey. Isn't this what people are seeing?

Yes, now we are talking!
Iain! No, the default colour scheme is black on dark grey, very hard to read (but now when I see it I admit that cyan on light grey is even harder) You (or at least I) have to go to your profile and change it to Slitherine style (and as honvedseg said it is not enough that it is already choosen, you have to choose the other style and then change it back to Slitherine, then you get a bright grey background)
So for new users this forum is not user friendly. But I am a registered user, thought you had to be that to be able to post?

Because as a new/unregistered user you get the text black on dark grey, and I must say it is not obvious how you change that. For me it would be natural to have a light bakground and dark text as default (there is a reason for that books has been printed that way for centuries), and then, if someone wanted to change it in some way (Cyan on light grey for exampleefthimios wrote:torgilsknutsson wrote:Yes, now we are talking!

Having different colours than you prefer is not IMO a valid reason for a forum to be considered not friendly. In this case that you as a user can actualy change the same settings, it makes even less sense to me to "accuse" this forum as unfriendly. (yes yes user unfriendly, that is what I mean).
For example, I LOVE the black text on grey background, would it be fair for me to say that this is the most user friendly forum because of it?
As for the books, they are printed on white background because it is far cheaper than having coloured pages.
I understand how you might not like the black on grey, but you can change that!

Hard to read
That's about the situation as I see it. The background was extremely dark, until I went in and edited my profile. The profile entry SAID "Slitherine", but changed to a lighter gray when I actually clicked on it and saved the settings. Apparently, the Default works only as far as making it the primary menu choice, but may not actually be active for some users. I don't understand why some people would see it one way and others another, but I can verify the problem in my case. If it matters, I'm using MS IE on Win 2000.
